SLSDC Board sworn in by DOT Secretart LaHood

The U.S. Senate confirmed William J. Mielke and Arthur H. Sulzer as members of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation Advisory Board on January 1.   William J. Mielke is Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Ruekert/Mielke, a consulting engineering company located in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. He has been a Director of Bank Mutual Corporation since 2000 and its subsidiary, Bank Mutual, since 1988. Mielke is also a Fellow of the American Consulting Engineers Council and has served as a diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. From 2006 to 2007, he was a member of the Special Committee on the Great Lakes Water Resources Compact. Prior to that, he was a member of the Wisconsin Land Council and the Joint Architect-Engineer Committee on Federal Procurement of Engineering. Mielke earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor.   Retired Navy Captain Arthur H. Sulzer is President of Arthur H. Sulzer Associates, Inc., a position he has held since 2001. From 1974 to 2005, Sulzer served in the U.S. Navy. His active duty assignments included Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, where he commanded the U.S. Naval Ship Comet. In 2003, Sulzer joined several colleagues to open Maritime Academy Charter High School


SUNY Maritime Seeks Bidders for Water Barge

Northrop Grumman Names VP for NN Legal Affairs

Northrop Grumman Corporation announced the appointment of William Mitchell as vice president, assistant general counsel and sector counsel for Newport News operations, effective immediately. P.B. (Kaj) Shah, Senior Vice President of Customer Service, was named President of Ingram Barge company. The appointment was announced by Craig E. Philip, CEO of Ingram Barge Company. Shah has been an Ingram executive since 1989. Most recently, he has been responsible for managing the logistics and transportation needs of Ingram’s dry cargo customers. During his more than 20 years at Ingram, Shah has held various positions in Logistics, Corporate Development, Planning and Strategy


Maritime College’s Naval ROTC Enrollment Reaches All-Time High

It seems like only yesterday that the members of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Unit at the State University of New York Maritime College witnessed the September11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and civil society. Located on the tip of the Throggs Neck peninsula, almost directly below the Throggs Neck Bridge and in direct sight of the Manhattan skyline, the Unit had a clear view of the tragedy.


VAdm Ryan in Command of SUNY Maritime

Vice Admiral John R. Ryan assumed the presidency of the State University of New York Maritime College during a ceremony held aboard Empire State VI while it was docked in Dublin, Ireland. Formerly the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, Vice Admiral Ryan is the College's 32nd president since its founding in 1874. The ceremony was attended by 600 Maritime Cadets aboard the ship as well as business and government leaders from Ireland

Women on the Water 2013
