Caspian Services Finalizes Multi-Vessel Contracts

Caspian Services, Inc., announced final execution of its multi-vessel contracts with Saipem S.p.A. Saipem has chartered five vessels from Caspian Services, Inc., subsidiary Caspian Services Group, Ltd., for a minimum of two years to support Saipem's pipeline projects in the giant Kashagan field under development in the Kazakhstan sector of the north Caspian Sea. The contracts call for Caspian Services Group, and its Dutch shipping partner, Rederij Waterweg, b.v., to provide Saipem with two new Multicat work boats, two anchor handling tugs and an existing survey vessel. The vessels will be placed into active operations in the spring of 2006. Mr. Laird Garrard, President of Caspian Services, Inc., said, "these contracts represent a significant expansion of our vessel fleet operations and will greatly enhance the range of marine services we can offer clients in this developing region in the future."


Norway's DOF Group Announce Offshore Charters

DOF Subsea provider of subsea services to the offshore oil & gas industry worldwide announce new vessel contracts. DOF Subsea AS has entered into a contract with Helix Well Ops for the vessel Skandi Constructor. The contract is for three year's firm with three, one year options. The contract will commence in the second quarter of 2013.
 Skandi Constructor is a well intervention vessel of Ulstein SX 121 design built in 2009. The vessel has a LOA of 120.2 m and a breadth of 25


Seaspan Announces Delivery of New Vessel

Seaspan Corporation announced the delivery of its fourteenth ship, the Dubai Express. The 4250 TEU vessel, which was built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., was delivered approximately ten weeks ahead of its contractual delivery date. The Dubai Express is the second of nine Seaspan vessels to be chartered to CP USA, a subsidiary of CP Ships Ltd. Seaspan also received notice of expected delivery for the second 4250 TEU vessel to be delivered this year, the Jakarta Express

Fortum Newbuildings Will Get Wärtsilä Engines

Wärtsilä Corporation has received a contract to supply the complete power systems for two 14,000 tdw product/chemical tankers under construction for the Finnish energy group Fortum. The two tankers have been contracted at the Portuguese shipbuilder Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo, with delivery due in 2003. With a cargo capacity of 16,000 cu m, they are of 140 m length overall by 21.7 m breadth, and have a service speed of 16 knots. They are also being built to ice class 1A Super.


PIRACY: Dockwise Appeals to Dutch Government for Help

Dockwise urges the Netherlands government to allow for better protection on its vessels to counteract piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. As the ability of governments to offer military protection is limited, the ability for ship owners to employ additional private protection is of the utmost importance. The new generation of 10,000 TEU container vessels contracted in China by Seaspan represents major improvements in energy efficiency, cargo capacity, operational efficiency and emission reductions. The new features have been developed in a collaboration between Seaspan, the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, MARIC and DNV. The order for seven 10,000 TEU container vessels plus 18 options which was signed in Shanghai on June 8, 2011 is the biggest ever container contract entered into in China
