ABB Unit Awarded Deep-Water Drillship System

The U.S. leg of ABB has won a $15 million contract for construction of a riser system for a new build drillship designated to operate in up to 10,000 ft. of water. With a scheduled delivery sometime during the second quarter of 2000, Saipem SPA of Milan, Italy granted this right to ABB Vetco Gray with construction to be done at Samsung Yard in Korea. The rig will incorporate both standard equipment, as used in most deep water rigs, as well as specific components that will be adjusted to comply with specific requirements. The 3.5 million pound rig will be outfitted with an advanced high capacity riser connector to handle its large size.


Singapore Shipyard Contracted for Ultra-deepwater Drill Rig

Sembcorp Marine, Jurong Shipyard gets US$ 568-million contract for semi-submersible deepwater rig for North Atlantic Drilling Ltd. The new rig will be constructed based on the Moss Maritime CS60 design – an enhancement of the Moss Maritime CS50E MKII harsh-environment ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rigs West Pegasus and West Leo which were delivered by Jurong Shipyard to Seadrill in March 2011 and January 2012 respectively


Aker Marine Sets New Mooring Water Depth Record

Aker Marine Contractors, Inc. (AMC), working under contract to Vastar Resources, Inc., recently set a new world water depth record for conventionally-moored drilling rigs using onboard mooring systems. Working in Mississippi Canyon Block 127, AMC secured Diamond Offshore drilling rig Ocean Victory by utilizing the rig's eight drag embedment, high holding power (HHP) anchors in water depths up to 5,800 ft. The rig itself was located in 5,423 ft water depth.

DryShips Takes Delivery of First Newbuilding Drillship

DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ: DRYS) announced that its 78% owned subsidiary Ocean Rig UDW Inc. took delivery of its newbuilding drillship, the Ocean Rig Corcovado. The Ocean Rig Corcovado is the first to be delivered of the four sister drillship vessels that are being constructed at Samsung Heavy Industries. The construction of all vessels is progressing well and according to schedule. The vessels are sixth generation advanced capability ultra-deep water drillships


CIMC Raffles Starts Norway's Semisub Construction

CIMC Raffles starts Norway semisub

Chinese semi-submersible rig specialist CIMC Raffles has kicked off construction of a deep-water unit destined for operation in Norway’s North Sea and other challenging regions such as the Arctic and Barents Sea.Construction started yesterday. Beacon Atlantic, built for Norway’s rig player North Sea Rigs to the GM4-D design, will be capable of operating in water depths of 500 metres with drilling depth up to 8000 metres.


Diamond Offshore Completes Rig Acquisition

Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. reported that its subsidiary, Diamond Offshore Drilling Limited, completed the previously announced acquisition of the third-generation semisubmersible drilling rig West Vanguard. The rig, purchased for $68.5 million, has been renamed Ocean Vanguard. In accordance with the sales agreement, the rig has been bareboat chartered to the seller for the completion of ongoing work in Norway. Diamond Offshore is a leader in deep water drilling


Keppel to Make its Mark in Qatar

Keppel FELS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore and Marine Ltd, will deliver its first Jack Up Drilling Rig ahead of schedule by the end of this year to Qatar's national drilling company, the Gulf Drilling International (GDI), the company's officials announced in Singapore recently. Built to Keppel's proprietary KFELS B Class design, the first rig has been named Al Khor, after one of Qatar's historical cities which has contributed to the development of Liquefied Natural Gas


BP Exercises Option for Leiv Eiriksson

Ocean Rig announces that BP Exploration (Angola) Limited has exercised the 4th option well under the present contract in Angola for Leiv Eiriksson. This well, which will last for an estimated 50 days, will be drilled in a sequence with the previously announced third option under the contract, together estimated to employ the rig until early December 2003. Ocean Rig owns and operates two of the worlds largest and most modern drilling-rigs


Transocean Sets World Water-Depth Drilling Record

Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) (SIX: RIGN) today announced that the ultra-deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 has set what the company believes is a world record for the deepest water depth by an offshore drilling rig of 10,194 feet of water while working for Reliance Industries offshore India. The rig, which is owned by a joint venture with Quantum Pacific Group, surpassed Transocean's prior record of 10,011 feet of water

Japanese Consortium Pulls Out of Brazilian Shipyard Ecovix
