ABB Unit Awarded Deep-Water Drillship System

The U.S. leg of ABB has won a $15 million contract for construction of a riser system for a new build drillship designated to operate in up to 10,000 ft. of water. With a scheduled delivery sometime during the second quarter of 2000, Saipem SPA of Milan, Italy granted this right to ABB Vetco Gray with construction to be done at Samsung Yard in Korea. The rig will incorporate both standard equipment, as used in most deep water rigs, as well as specific components that will be adjusted to comply with specific requirements. The 3.5 million pound rig will be outfitted with an advanced high capacity riser connector to handle its large size.

Aker Marine Sets New Mooring Water Depth Record

Aker Marine Contractors, Inc. (AMC), working under contract to Vastar Resources, Inc., recently set a new world water depth record for conventionally-moored drilling rigs using onboard mooring systems. Working in Mississippi Canyon Block 127, AMC secured Diamond Offshore drilling rig Ocean Victory by utilizing the rig's eight drag embedment, high holding power (HHP) anchors in water depths up to 5,800 ft. The rig itself was located in 5,423 ft water depth.

Diamond Offshore Completes Rig Acquisition

Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. reported that its subsidiary, Diamond Offshore Drilling Limited, completed the previously announced acquisition of the third-generation semisubmersible drilling rig West Vanguard. The rig, purchased for $68.5 million, has been renamed Ocean Vanguard. DryShips Takes Delivery of First Newbuilding Drillship

DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ: DRYS) announced that its 78% owned subsidiary Ocean Rig UDW Inc. took delivery of its newbuilding drillship, the Ocean Rig Corcovado. The Ocean Rig Corcovado is the first to be delivered of the four sister drillship vessels that are being constructed at Samsung Heavy Industries. Singapore Shipyard Contracted for Ultra-deepwater Drill Rig

Sembcorp Marine, Jurong Shipyard gets US$ 568-million contract for semi-submersible deepwater rig for North Atlantic Drilling Ltd. The new rig will be constructed based on the Moss Maritime CS60 design – an enhancement of the Moss Maritime CS50E MKII harsh-environment ultra-deepwater semi-submersible rigs West Pegasus and West Leo which were delivered by Jurong Shipyard to Seadrill in March 2011 and January 2012 respectively

Keppel to Make its Mark in Qatar

Worldwide offshore rig utilization climbed slightly the week ending March 9, according to ODS-Petrodata Group. Global rig utilization climbed 0.1 percent to 87.4percent, due to a one-rig net increase in contracted rigs, ODS reported. U.S. Gulf rig utilization was unchanged at 88.2 percent, with 186 out of the region's 211 mobile offshore rigs under contract. European offshore rig utilization decreased by 0.1 percent to 92

BP Exercises Option for Leiv Eiriksson

Ocean Rig announces that BP Exploration (Angola) Limited has exercised the 4th option well under the present contract in Angola for Leiv Eiriksson.
