DONG Energy & Siemens AG sign up to supply and service a total of 154 offshore wind turbines (OWT) of 6 megawatt each. The agreements give DONG Energy the option to install the turbines on its Gode Wind projects in Germany from 2015. Utilisation of the potential supplies and services under the agreements is subject to official approvals for the specific projects and DONG Energy making a positive investment decision for the projects. Following the acquisition of the ownership interest in the Gode Wind projects in August 2012, DONG Energy invited tenderers for the supply of offshore turbines in accordance with EC tender rules. The agreements signed with Siemens AG are a result of the tender procedure. The agreements concern Siemens’ 6 megawatt offshore wind turbine based on gearless direct drive technology and with a 154-metre rotor. ”With these agreements we are stepping up our commitment to the German offshore wind market. We are already building our first wind farm in Germany and maturing a number of other projects, including the Gode Wind projects on which we plan to use the supplies under these agreements,” said Samuel Leupold, Executive Vice President in DONG Energy Wind Power and continued, “By 2020 we want to have installed 6,500 megawatt of offshore wind power compared to the 1,700 megawatt we have already built. The agreements with Siemens AG are an important step towards meeting that target

With the support of technical due diligence advice from GL Garrad Hassan, Sumitomo Corporation and its subsidiary Sumitomo Corporation Europe last week agreed to invest significant amount of equity in two Belgian offshore projects. The Belwind 1 operational wind farm and Northwind project together account for 127 wind turbines and 381 MW of generating capacity with total project cost of about €1,550 million. The investment by Sumitomo is further evidence that offshore wind is
Forewind has scaled back by a third plans to build wind farms at Dogger Bank in Britain's North Sea, which could nevertheless become the world's largest wind project, it said on Friday. Forewind -- a consortium of energy companies RWE Innogy UK, SSE, Statkraft and Statoil -- gave no specific reason for the decision. It had secured licenses from Britain's Crown Estate to build six projects at the Dogger Bank offshore zone of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of electricity each.
International classification society Bureau Veritas has issued guidelines for the Classification and Certification of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines. The guidelines specify the environmental conditions under which floating offshore wind turbines may serve, the principles of structural design, load cases for the platform and mooring system, stability and the structural division and design criteria for the top structure
Hamburg, Germany – GL Garrad Hassan, part of the GL Group, has been awarded grants by the US Department of Energy (DOE) of $500,000 and $200,000 to fund two studies to identify optimal strategies for the installation, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind farms and to assess the readiness of US ports to meet the needs of the industry. To meet the renewable energy targets of the next century, offshore wind projects hold great promise with steady, strong winds
Roughly 90% of global offshore wind capacity comes from Europe, with the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany at the forefront After interviewing over 100 offshore wind experts working in the North Sea and surrounding oceans, Wind Energy Update has collated the results to give the industry the latest market data.
