PlanetSolar Betters its Own Transatlantic Record

The solar-powered vessel has recently sailed the 2,867 miles from Las Palmas to St. Martin, French WI, at an average 5.3 knots to break the earlier record. During the trip around the world (2010-2012), the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar sailed for 26 days from one side of the Atlantic to the other, thereby claiming the world record speed for a solar-powered transatlantic crossing and her first entry in the Guinness World Records™. It hasn’t been broken since. It was not until 2013 that the largest solar boat in the world repeated the trip to realize a new global accomplishment: 22 days, 12 hours, and 32 minutes. During the transatlantic crossing, the crew encountered phases of substantial cloudiness for several consecutive days, and regularly had to optimize their route. The MS Tûranor PlanetSolar’s captain, Gérard d’Aboville, explains that “it was necessary to make a significant deviation to the south, which increased the travelling distance by 7%, but enabled us to avoid winds and unfavorable swells.” Furthermore, the ship’s energy consumption had to be carefully managed in order to maintain an efficient speed and reach St. Martin in less than 26 days. Partnership Sets Record for Mooring Depth

Delmar Systems, Inc. and Shell Deepwater Development, Inc. set another world record for mooring depth when the two companies partnered to moor Transocean Marianas in more than 7,500 ft. in the Gulf of Mexico. Semi-submersible drilling rig Marianas was moored in 7,569 ft. in Mississippi Canyon 657 using a Suction Anchor System and Delmar's Single Vessel Installation Procedure. The deepest anchor was set at 7,738 ft.

Transocean Ltd. Gas Turbines Give Austal Strategic Military Edge

Austal Ships' is furthering its strategic advantage in the growing market for high-speed military vessels, via its U.S. joint venture shipyard being short-listed to build an experimental vessel for a program sponsored by the United States' Office of Naval Research. A year after the 100% biofuel eco-boat, Earthrace, finished its around the world dash, her international crew of volunteers have been officially named world record holders by the Union International Motonautique (UIM). The worldwide governing body for powerboating has confirmed that the team did break the ten-year old round the world speed record previously held by British boat, Cable & Wireless Adventurer, smashing the record by almost two weeks.

Drydocks World delivered Lewek Fulmar, the world’s first UT788 CD Multi-functional Ultra Deep Water Anchor Handling Tug, Supply and Service vessel (AHTS). The vessel was built at Drydocks World’s Singapore facility. The vessel has reportedly broken the world bollard pull record by an AHTS at 402.4T, surpassing the previous record of 397T.  “We have now built four such vessels at our facility in Nanindah and a sixth vessel is under construction in Singapore

 DP World London Gateway has welcomed one of the world’s largest container ships carrying a record 18,601-teu. The UASC-owned Al Muraykh called at DP World London Gateway to unload 3,800 containers.   Al Muraykh, a new generation of ultra-large container ships, is one of the largest in the world measuring 400 metres in length.   The containers are loaded 11 storeys high above deck and 23 containers across the ship
