Towering Mast Fitted to Sailing Superyacht

Wally-built yacht 'Better Place' sails the Mediterranean with a Hall Spars 67.5 m (221.4 ft) high modulus carbon mast. Wally, a leading builder of innovative state-of-the-art sail and power yachts, has successfully launched the stunning Bugatti blue colored 50-meter sailing yacht Better Place, the world’s largest sloop in carbon fiber, developed on the lines of Tripp Design with the interiors by Wetzels Brown Partners, and mast and boom by Hall Spars. This Hall Spars Rig (mast and boom) weighs 42 tons.  The four spreader mast is a custom design by Hall’s in-house engineering team, tailored to meet Wally’s criteria for high performance combined with high style and built to handle "some pretty ridiculous loads."  The Hall designed mast collar with turning bocks is a signature on Wally masts.  The Hall Spars Oceanfurl boom is a premium carbon fiber in-boom furling system.   Better Place was launched in July 2012 and the owner has been cruising the Mediterranean for the summer, then the sloop is to be unveilled to the public at the Monaco Yacht Show.  

Event Yacht Christened at Amels Yard

The first Amels 199, Event, has been christened at the Amels yard in Vlissingen, Holland. In a few weeks the 60-meter ship will set out on her maiden voyage to Norway to explore the fjords. Event’s delivery was part of a collaboration between Amels and Imperial. The christening was an emotional occasion, the owner sending his thanks to the Amels workforce who were there to enjoy the moment after many months of dedication and hard work

Shipyard files Chapter 11, but Derecktor Maintains its Course to Grow

Derecktor Shipyards Conn., LLC last month filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. The company said the filing was the result of a single contract dispute, and that it is still busy and fully staffed, working on several newbuild projects, including a contract to build a massive 85.6-m motor yacht, a 45-m catamaran and a pair of tugboats for Boston Towing and Transport

First Steel-Hull Megayacht from Taiwan

Jade Yachts Shipbuilding Corp. is set to deliver the first made-in-Taiwan steel super yacht, a milestone in the nation's shipbuilding sector. "We hope to take the shipbuilding industry in Taiwan to a higher level in terms of quantity and quality," Jade Yachts chairman Han Pi-hsiang said while scrutinizing the 86-ft. yacht Bandido during its first sea trial in Kaohsiung Harbor, according to a report on www.taipeitimes.com.
