MOL & Viken in Shuttle Tanker Ownership J/V

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) says it has decided to establish a ship-owning joint venture with Norway's Viken Shipping AS  to participate in a shuttle tanker project. The joint company is called Viken MOL AS, and will be managed from Viken Shipping's office in Bergen. The initial investment by the joint company will be the acquisition of a company belonging to the Viken Shipping Group, which owns five crude oil shuttle tankers currently serving on long-term charter contract with Petrobras Transporte S.A. of Brazil (Transpetro), a wholly owned petroleum and gas transport subsidiary Petrobras, Brazil's national oil company. Waxler Transportation Co. has taken delivery of the final towboat in a series of five 99 by 35-ft, 3200 hp pushboats. The latest sister, the M/V Helen Merrill, made her maiden voyage for Secors inland transport subsidiary in mid-January 2010.   Each of the vessels has a pair of Cummins KTA50 M2 diesels individually rated for 1600 HP linked to Haley HRV Series gears providing main engine power. Electrical requirements are met by a pair of 99 kW Cummins Onan generator sets.

Marine Builders Delivers to Waxler

Waxler Transportation Co. has taken delivery of the fourth in a series of five 3200 HP pushboats. The latest sister, the Angela Jean, was delivered to Secors inland transport subsidiary in July of this year. Others in this series of 99 by 35-ft towboats are the Dylan Wexler, delivered in 2007, the McKenzie Waxler and the Cynthia G. Esper, delivered in 2008. The Angela Jean has now joined the growing Waxler fleet. The Helen Merrill is scheduled for delivery in December of this year.

TECO Unveils New Subsidiary Identities

Based in Tampa, Florida, this business handles all of TECO Transport's global blue water transportation activities. It is the largest dry bulk ocean transport company operating under the U.S. flag; and TECO Bulk Terminal (formerly Electro-Coal Transfer). Based in Davant, La., this terminal and storage transfer operation handles bulk commodities at the mouth of the Mississippi River, including coal, petroleum coke, phosphate and iron ore. TECO Transport President Jeff Rankin said that because of its diversity of subsidiaries, TECO Transport is the only U.S. company capable of moving bulk products from source to point-of-use.

Roggenbeck Appointed Director of ATB Operations for Marine Transport

$160 Million Earmarked For New Ships

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) said its transport subsidiary had secured a $160 million loan for two new ships from banks led by Credit Suisse First Boston. The company the loan would cover much of the cost of the ships -- being built by Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.-- that will be needed to transport gas when a 50 percent expansion to the vast Bonny LNG plant is completed at the end of 2002.
