On October 31, 2022, global maritime leaders of tomorrow graduated from the World Maritime University (WMU). The Class of 2022 has received the education required to contribute to maritime and ocean matters in their home countries and more broadly to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Cargotec, Konecranes Win EU Antitrust Approval for $5 Billion Merger

Cargotec and Konecranes on Thursday won EU antitrust clearance for their 4.5-billion-euro ($5 billion) deal to create a global leader in industrial machinery after agreeing to divest some businesses.The companies, which provide road and sea-cargo handling machinery and services to industries, factories, ports and terminals, announced their tie-up in October last year.The European Commission said the companies' remedies addressed its concerns that the deal may hurt competition and lead to higher prices, confirming a Reuters story on Feb.

Bullying and Harassment a Challenge for the Maritime Industry -Study

Women and minority groups are especially exposed to bullying and harassment at sea. This is shown in a scientific article by Cecilia Österman and Magnus Boström at Kalmar Maritime Academy at Linnaeus University. More than half of all women seafarers state that they have been subjected.Working at sea is a masculine-coded profession with a strong culture that values practical experience. Work on board is characterized to a large extent by insecure employments, high workloads, and at times contradictive requirements to work both efficiently and safely.

Medcenter Container Terminal Orders 12 Straddle Carriers from Kalmar

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order of 12 diesel-electric straddle carriers from Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT) in Italy.Located in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, MCT,  owned and operated by Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), is a mega port able to handle the largest container vessels deployed on Asia-Mediterranean routes.The terminal has handled more than 56 million TEUs since it opened in September 1995. In January 2020, Kalmar delivered the 200th Kalmar straddle carrier to the terminal.

AAL Shipping Delivers Four Cranes to Port of Oslo

Shipping firm AAL Shipping has recently delivered four of the largest rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) in its history to the Port of Oslo, Norway. Kalmar Delivers MCT 200th Straddle Carrier

Kalmar, a provider of cargo-handling solutions and services to ports and terminals, and Italy's Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT), are celebrating the delivery of the terminal's 200th straddle carrier.Both companies participated in a joint event on 15 January in recognition of their long-standing partnership.Located in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, MCT is a megaport able to handle the largest vessels deployed on Asia-Mediterranean routes. Kalmar Supplies 9 Straddle Carriers to Eurogate

The  manufacturer of terminal tractors Kalmar has concluded an agreement with long-term customer Eurogate to heighten nine Kalmar straddle carriers operating at the Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q4 order intake, with the work scheduled to commence in Q1 of 2020 and be completed by the beginning of Q3, the unit of Cargotec said.Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg is one of Northern Europe’s main transport hubs, offering excellent road, rail and feeder connections to the economic centers of Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Russia. Asyaport Selects Kalmar Zero Emission RTG

Kalmar, the provider of cargo-handling solutions and services to ports, said that it has been awarded a contract to supply Asyaport Liman A.S. Kalmar Supplies Hybrid Shuttle Carriers to Virginia Port

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has announced that it will supply 25 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers to the Port of Virginia, a growing, deep water port on the U.S. East Coast.The $23 million (USD) order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q3 order intake, and represents the exercising of a contract option for further units that was agreed upon in 2017. Kalmar in Service Contract with OPCSA

Kalmar, the provider of the cargo handling solutions and services to ports, has concluded an agreement to supply comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance services to Operaciones Portuarias Canarias S.A. Kalmar Upgrades EUROGATE Tanger

Finnish manaufacturer of cargo-handling machinery Cargotec Oyj said that its subsidiary Kalmar has concluded an agreement with long-term customer EUROGATE Tanger in Morocco to upgrade the capabilities of four ZPMC ship-to-shore (STS) cranes.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q3 order intake, and the project is scheduled to commence in Q1 of 2020 and be completed in Q2 2021.The EUROGATE Tanger (EGT) container terminal is conveniently located on the Strait of Gibraltar in Morocco, making it the ideal transhipment hub for the western Mediterranean, Africa, as well as North and South America.With a quay length of 812 m, a terminal area of 400,000 m² and a water depth of up to 18 m, the facility is well-equipped to handle the new generation of container ships.
