Halter Marine has been chosen by the Egyptian Navy to construct four Ambassador MK III Fast Missile Patrol Craft (FMC (FMC)
). The vessels will be the continuation of the Ambassador Class Patrol Craft, which were previously designed and built by Halter. Lockheed Martin (LMT)
, a key subcontractor, will provide combat system design and integration. The contract, which also includes spare parts and technical services, calls for construction to begin in the second quarter of 2001 at Halter's Mississippi facilities.
Measuring 199 ft. (60.6 m), the state-of-the-art FMC, which evolved from a proven Halter Ambassador Class patrol craft design, will have a diesel propulsion system. This evolution was made possible by the assistance of Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technological Laboratories. The FMC will provide the Egyptian Navy with
the latest in technology and defense capability for any vessel in this class.
In addition to this contract, subject to approval of the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency will add a significant long-term project valued in excess of $400 million to the backlog of Friede Goldman Halter.
