Sunken Fishing Vessel Spilling Oil Off San Juan Island

A commercial fishing vessel that sank Saturday near San Juan Island, Wash. is spilling oil, the U.S. Coast Guard said.All five crewmembers from the sinking Aleutian Isle were rescued by a Good Samaritan, and no injuries have been reported.The 49-foot vessel sank with approximately 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel and a combined 100 gallons of hydraulic fluid and lubricant oil aboard, according to the Coast Guard. A sheen has been observed spanning more than two miles and was reported to have entered Canadian waters as the vessel continues to release small amounts of diesel.At approximately 2 p.m.

IRClass Classification for 54 BSF Vessels

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has secured an order for providing classification services for nine floating border out posts (FBOPs) and 36 patrol boats of the Border Security Force (BSF).IRClass, a 'Preferred Partner' to the Indian Navy, has considerably increased the range of its services to Ministry of Home Affairs in classing and certifying water crafts for paramilitary forces.The Ministry, in turn, has reciprocated by stipulating that the FBOPs, besides being built to IRClass rules, are also maintained in class for 13 years after delivery. ConRo Ablaze in the Bay of Biscay

Twenty-seven people have been rescued from an Italian-registered cargo ship that caught fire Monday night in the Bay of Biscay, about 150 miles southwest of Brest. USCG Issues Advice for Collecting Information for SubM COI's

As of June 25, 2018, the Coast Guard has issued 22 certificates of inspection (COI) to towing vessels in both the Atlantic and Pacific areas of operation. Additional inspections are scheduled between now and July 20, 2018, when Subchapter M is fully implemented. The requirements for obtaining a certificate of inspection, as detailed in 46 CFR 136.210, begin when the owner/operator submits the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved Form CG-3752 “Application for Inspection.” New construction vessels use Form CG-3752A. Owners/operators are only required to complete OMB-approved forms and submit the information listed in the regulations.

Indian Navy Decommissions INS Nirbhik, INS Nirghat

The Indian Naval Ships Nirbhik and Nirghat have been decommissioned at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, after a glorious 30 and 28 years respectively in the service of the nation. The solemn ceremony involved traditional lowering of the ensign and commissioning pendants with playing of ‘Last Post’. The Chief Guest for the ceremony was Rear Admiral R B Pandit, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, who had commanded Nirghat earlier. Cdr V R Naphade, (Retd) and Commodore S Mampully, (Retd), the commissioning Commanding Officers of Nirbhik and Nirghat respectively were the Guests of Honour. These ships of Killer squadron are inheritors of a proud legacy as their original avatars were flag bearers of the naval offensive action on Karachi Harbour during Indo-Pak war in 1971.

Two Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels (NOPVs) for the Indian Navy were launched in Reliance Defense shipyard at Pipavav on July 25, 2017. Woes Mount for ABG Shipyard

The Indian ministry of defence (MoD) has terminated the contracts with India's ABG Shipyard, which already  was out of the race for $2.6-billion four Landing Platforms Docks (LPD). This comes as another serious setback to the Shipyard after it was listed as non-performing asset (NPA) accounts by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for fast resolution under the insolvency law. ABG Shipyard has failed the corporate debt restructuring (CDR) carried out by ICICI bank. The Financial Express reported that keeping in mind the poor financial health of the shipyard, the MoD has written to ABG  that their old contracts are terminated. “The MoD through a letter to ABG Shipyard has cancelled contracts including Cadet Training ship; Coast Guard Training Ship and Naval vessels.

Mynmar Naval Delegation Visits Indian Naval Base

A Myanmar Navy (MN) Delegation comprising three officers: Lt Cdr ThureinTun, Lt Cdr Kyaw Zeya Oo and Lt Ye WintTun, has completed a four-day official visit to Southern Naval Command (SNC) Kochi on 02 March 2017. The visit was primarily aimed at familiarizing the MN officers on Indian Naval Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) operational / training facilities and exploring avenues for defence co-operation in the field. An expanding maritime consultancy headquartered in Seattle has recorded its busiest start to a year so far with rising demand for its services worldwide. The Maritime Group (International) (TMG) is lining up contracts across multiple sectors for 2017 after a surge of interest in its services. Lenders Hire Rothschild to Sell ABG Shipyard

Largest Private Sector Shipbuilding Yard in India ABG Shipyard is for sale. The Lenders led by State Bank of India has hired investment bank Rothschild to find a buyer for a majority stake in the company as they struggle to save Rs 16,000 crore ($2.4 billion) worth of loans given to it, reports Economoc Times. Lenders have to complete this exercise -converting debt into equity -within 210 days and find a new buyer within 18 months, according to Reserve Bank of India norms. Earlier, Global commodities platform SIMEC Group bought a 51% stake in ABG Cement for Rs525 crore and initiated a management change in the company earlier this financial year. Meanwhile, Lenders to ABG Shipyard have converted a significant portion of their debt into equity and now own 49.15% in the company.
