New Police Boat Delivered to Louisiana's St. James Parish

Ocean Craft Marine (OCM) based in Annapolis, Md., has delivered a new police boat to the St. James Parish, La. Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT).The St. James Parish Sherriff’s Office is adding the Ocean Craft Marine 8M Law Enforcement (LE) Interceptor rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) to its assortment of patrol craft in order to augment their riverine capabilities with the latest in high-performance hull designs. Innovation Spotlight: U.S.-Built Security Vessels

Building patrol boats is big business, especially for foreign defense needs. U.S. yards compete on a global stage in the all-important maritime security workboat arena. Patrol boats have continued to enhance bottom lines at many U.S. vessel builders this year through sales that are usually government directed or assisted. Budget cuts are a concern, but the sector’s federal funding remains high. Patrol boats are sold to other nations under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales or FMS program, authorized by the Arms Export Control Act to provide defense items.

New Coast Guard Boat Arrives Charleston S.C.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston hosts ceremony to recognize the arrival of its new Response Boat-Medium. This 45-foot boat is designed to replace the 1970’s era 41-foot Utility Boats that are currently assigned to Coast Guard Sector Charleston. The delivery is the first of five boats that will be delivered to Coast Guard Sector Charleston during the next year and assigned to four small boat stations throughout South Carolina and Georgia. The RB-M is one of the Coast Guard’s newest boats and is equipped with state-of-the-art marine technology that makes the RB-M a high performer.

The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution – KNRM – enjoys a reputation for excellence in maritime search and rescue. It operates in one of the world’s busiest locations, the North Sea, where over a thousand ships sail in any given 24 hours. To be able to cover all the emergency situations that arise within its area of operations, the KNRM has a dense coastal coverage of 44 lifeboat stations, all equipped with fast, all weather, self-righting lifeboats: one of the most modern and rugged fleets anywhere.

Coast Guard to Commission Coastal Patrol Boat

The Coast Guard Cutter Pompano, an 87-ft. Coastal Patrol Boat, will be commissioned into service in a ceremony at Coast Guard Station Gulfport on December 14 at 10 a.m. The Pompano, homported in Gulfport, is a new Marine Protector Class vessel capable of performing search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries patrols, drug interdiction, and alien interdiction duties up to 200 miles offshore. Key speakers at the ceremony include Mississippi Rep. Ronnie Shows, and the Eighth Coast Guard District Commander, Rear Adm. Roy J. Casto. Lt. Daniel Jones, commanding officer of the Pompano, will lead a crew of 10. The Marine Protector Class is designed to replace the aging 82-ft. Point Class cutters.

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has re-delivered the 254-ft. supply boat, Elsa Leigh, to Aries Marine Corp., Lafayette, La. While it looks like a new vessel, Elsa Leigh is the new name for the former Seacor Clipper after an extensive renovation at Bollinger’s Morgan City shipyard. Delivery: Bollinger Delivers the "New" Elsa Leigh

Bollinger Shipyards last month re-delivered the 254-ft. supply boat, Elsa Leigh, to Aries Marine Corp., of Lafayette, La., which is the new name for the former Seacor Clipper following extensive renovation at Bollinger's Morgan City shipyard. The new name is in honor of Elsa Leigh, the four year-old daughter of Courtney B. Ramsay, vice-president of Aries Marine. "This is the kind of project we love," said Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger. Much of the work involved mechanical systems in the hull and replacement of about 30 percent of the boat's steel. The vessel was brought up to ABS DPS 1, FiFi1 and GMDSS Area 3 certification. Her two main EMD engines were removed and rebuilt by NREC in Houma, La., who boosted their power from 1,250 hp each to 1,500 hp each.

ABCO Launches Three New Boats

ABCO Industries Limited, Marine Group — located on the waterfront of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia — manufactures welded aluminum boats to 60 ft. The company has served the marine industry for 57 years, and during the past 15 it has developed a comprehensive line of aluminum boats. Delivered in April, Pointe Caveau is a 48 x 16 ft. Delivered in May, this 26 x 10.5 ft. welded aluminum RIB for Ocean Exploration Whale Cruises is propelled by twin 130 hp outboards. Delivered July 27, 2004, this is a 32 x 10.5 ft. welded aluminum harbor patrol vessel for Halifax Port Authority. It is powered by a pair of 5.9l Cummins driving Ultradynamics 305 waterjets…

Mackay Marine to Outfit RB-M Project

Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) and Kvichak Marine Industries (KMI) have recently been awarded a $600m contract for the production of up to 250 Response Boat Medium (RB-M) boats for the United States Coast Guard. It has been over three years since the Marinette-Kvichak spec boat underwent testing at the USCG base in Norfolk, VA. Mackay Marine, Inc will be outfitting the 45 ft. RB-M vessels with a state of the art marine electronics package. The main suite of electronics will consist of Furuno’s Navnet Vx2 radar/plotter/sounder system with Ethernet capability so the crew will truly have an integrated electronics package. The autopilot system will be comprised of the Simrad AP25 autopilot, and be fully integrated into their marine electronics platform.

Iveco Motors Diesel Engines Available in Henriques Yachts

Iveco Motors of North America, Inc., a Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT) company, proudly announces an agreement to supply their NEF 400, Cursor 550 and Cursor 770 diesel marine engines to Henriques Yachts, a full line of commercial, sport and recreational fishing boats. Through an agreement with Iveco Motors’ distributor, Mid-Atlantic Engine Supply Corporation (MAESCO), the company will distribute the three specific engines to Henriques Yachts for their full line of fishing boats, between 30-feet and 42-feet. The N60 ENT M40 (NEF 400) is the newest engine in IVECO MOTORS’ NEF family of marine engines. The NEF 400 is a 6-cylinder, 4-valves-per-cylinder in-line diesel engine equipped with a common rail fuel injection system.

Consilium Selesmar Launches Radar Display

Consilium Selesmar has launched their new SeLux TFT Display. The flexible and modular radar display follows a new and attractive design and works equally well both integrated in an IBS and as a stand-alone radar. The user-friendly man-machine interface is based on new software, enabling a flexible utilization, for instance by allowing traditional keyboard entries as well as track-ball/mouse instructions via user-defined windows. On-line help is given at any time, further simplifying the day-to-day use. Full ARPA configuration exceeding IMO recommendations enables tracking capability of up to 100 targets simultaneously. Loran Station Kodiak to Hold Change of Command

The Coast Guard Loran Station here will hold a Change of Command Ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Senior Chief Robert A. Merick will relieve Chief Richard J. Isabelle as Commanding Officer of the unit during the ceremony. Isabelle, of Springfield, Mass., will serve as executive officer of Loran Station Port Clarence. Isabelle’s previous duty stations include Loran Station Marcus Island, Japan, and the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma in New Bedford, Mass. He graduated from Springfield Technical Community College with an associate’s degree in Electronics Technology in 1985 followed by a degree from the Advanced Integrated Electronics School in Memphis, Tenn. Merick, of Sikeston, Mo., most recently served at the Kodiak Communications Station as the Electronics Technician in Charge.

Technology:Electronic Milestone for Two-Stroke Champ

As the culmination of nearly 12 years' research and development work, and a pointer to the direction of two-stroke diesel propulsion technology, MAN B&W has rolled-out its first purpose-built, electronically-controlled low-speed engine. Produced at the group's versatile Frederikshavn plant in Denmark, the camshaft-free 7S50ME-C engine is claimed to offer a range of operating, cost and environmental benefits, and will be fitted in a 37,500-dwt newbuild for Norwegian chemtanker specialist Odfjell. Odfjell's bold decision to nominate the ME concept, and so dispense with conventional control arrangements based on camshaft drive, follows its experience with a modern tanker powered by a two-stroke 6L60MC engine adapted for full electronic command in November 2000.

LaBarge Awarded $1.3M Contract From Lockheed Martin

LaBarge, Inc. has been awarded a $1.3 million contract from Lockheed Martin, Syracuse, N.Y., to make Integrated Electronics Mast (IEM) cable assemblies and interconnect devices for the U.S. Navy's next-generation attack submarine, the Virginia class. LaBarge will produce and test a variety of IEM cable assemblies that transmit tactical surveillance and reconnaissance data. The cables are part of a revolutionary, modular mast that aids in self-protection and intelligence gathering for battle group support by providing detection, identification and direction-finding for radar and communication signals, emanating from ships, aircraft, submarines and other emitters. Production at LaBarge's Joplin, Mo., facility is expected to run through September 2003.
