EnQuest Selects Esvagt as ERRV Provider

Offshore vessel provider Esvagt has been awarded a new contract with the United Kingdom-based petroleum exploration and production company EnQuest for the provision of emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRV).According to the provider of safety and support at sea, under this contract, four ESVAGT vessels will support EnQuest Heather Ltd’s operation in the UK.The contract includes a continued support on the Kraken oil field and Kittiwake and, since December 2019, ERRV duties on Magnus and EnQuest Producer.‘The multiple-year contract award is a significant milestone for ESVAGT’s continued efforts to further strengthen our long-term commitment in the UK production market’…

Coast Guard Responds to Collision near Oahu

The Coast Guard responded to a reported collision of two vessels approximately 20 miles southeast of Oahu, Wednesday.The commercial fishing vessel, Helen, reportedly collided with the Italian-flagged Liquid Propane Gas tanker, Pertusola, carrying 2,300 metric tons of propane reportedly collided.At 1:52 p.m., Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a report from the vessel Helen’s captain via VHF radio channel 16 of the incident.The U.S.

Onboard Fuel Compatibility Testing is Growing

Parker Kittiwake Launches ATR Analyzer

Parker Kittiwake launched the Parker Kittiwake Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) analyzer, which the company says represents a breakthrough for the simultaneous testing of base number (BN), total acid number (TAN), insolubles, soot loading, viscosity, FAME and water content of oil samples on board a ship, allowing all parameters to be measured using a single sample in one test kit. The ATR analyzer uses infrared spectroscopy to determine the presence of damaging elements such as solid particles or water in a representative sample of oil.

New Tug Delivered to Targe Towing

U.K towage company Targe Towing ltd. signed a contract with Sanmar Shipyards for the purchase of tugboat Bogacay 26 two weeks ago. Bogacay 26 started her maiden journey immediately after the contract signing and arrived Aberdeen last week. The flag of the vessel was changed at the port with the participation of Sanmar crew, Sanmar Projects Engineer Deniz Dereli and  partners of Targe Towing, Tom Wooley and Nick Dorman. Briggs Marine Adds New Vessel in Liverpool

U.K. marine contractor Briggs Marine said it is set to further increase its fleet with the delivery of a new vessel following trials earlier this month. A total of three ORC 171 Fast Pilot vessels were ordered in 2016 and have been designed by French naval architect Pantocarene for the builder, Goodchild Marine in Great Yarmouth. The 17 meter craft Kittiwake, which is the first of the three vessels to be completed, wrapped up trials early May and is set to join Briggs’ long-term contract in the Port of Liverpool, as part of a fleet renewal. Further orders are in the pipeline.

Eagle Bulk Reports 3Q Loss

Connecticut-based Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc reported a loss of $19.4 million in its third quarter ended September 30, 2016. It had net loss of $20.4 million last year Q3. It has a loss of 52 cents per share compared to  $10.83 net loss per share, for the comparable quarter in 2015. The shipping company posted revenue of $35.8 million in the period, versus $29.1 million reported last year. Fleet utilization rate of 98.9%. The sale of MV Harrier and MV Kittiwake for net proceeds of $3.2 million and $4.2 million, respectively. On November 7, 2016, Eagle Bulk announced the acquisition of a 2016 built 61,000 deadweight NACKS-61 Ultramax vessel constructed at Nantong COSCO Kawasaki Heavy Industries Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) for $18.85 million.

Parker Kittiwake today launched the Condition Monitoring Starter Kit. The kit combines the Parker Kittiwake DigiCell combined kit, the Holroyd MHC-Bearing Checker, and a PC tablet with a condition monitoring routine and log book pre-loaded on it to help guide the user in using the products for maximum effect. Search On for Missing Diver Near Big Island

The Coast Guard and Hawaii County Fire Department are searching for a missing diver off Puako Beach, Big Island, Wednesday. Missing is 69-year-old Diana Wolking. Wolking was last seen wearing a black rash guard, black and white bikini bottom with a scuba tank and black fins. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point is currently searching along with the crew of USCGC Kittiwake. Hawaii County Fire Department is  searching with helicopter and rescue boat crews. An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast has been issued alerting mariners in the area to keep a sharp lookout and report any sightings to the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center. Watchstanders at Sector Honolulu received notification at 7:20 p.m.

New Data Gathering System for ECA Compliance

Parker Kittiwake Procal, part of the Parker Hannifin Corporation and the supplier of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) for marine, power and offshore applications, has launched the new Procal 1200M data gathering system and control unit, specifically designed for maritime use by marine engineers. In addition to collecting and processing data from Parker Kittiwake Procal’s marine emissions analyzers, the Procal 12000M is capable of sending and receiving data from devices which monitor exhaust gas scrubbing systems.

New Test Kit Detects Cat Fines Onboard

A new Cat Fines Test Kit has been launched by asset control and protection technology provider Parker Kittiwake. The onboard test identifies the presence of abrasive silicon and aluminum catalytic fines, which can become embedded into engine components and cause abrasive wear, causing irreversible damage to a vessel’s fuel system if left undetected. When fuel is stored for extended periods of time, cat fines – leftovers from the refinery cracking process – settle out of the fuel and build up as sediment in storage tanks.

Search on for Two in Waters near Halona Blowhole

The Coast Guard is searching for two men swept out to sea near Halona Blowhole Lookout, Saturday. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Honolulu, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point and the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Kittiwake, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat homeported in Honolulu, are searching for the missing men. Honolulu Fire Department and Ocean Safety are also assisting with search efforts. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center received notification from the Honolulu Fire Department at 5:07 p.m. of the situation. The two men were last seen at approximately 5 p.m. On-scene weather conditions are 17 mph winds and 4-foot seas.

Aberdeen Pupils Peek into Subsea Oil & Gas Technology

Pupils at an Aberdeen primary school were given a rare insight into the depths of the oil and gas industry’s subsea sector after getting to sit in the driving seat of a remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) simulator. The Tullos Primary visit to i-Tech was organised by EnQuest as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to encouraging youngsters to consider a career in the oil and gas industry. Around 20 primary five pupils were shown why ROVs are increasingly becoming pivotal to the critical path of subsea operations during the tour at i-Tech, which is a division of Subsea 7 and a global-leading supplier of ROV and intervention tooling solutions.

Matson Monitors Cylinder Liner Wear

The cylinder liner is a crucial part of a ship’s engine, as monitoring wear not only extends operational life but also prevents unexpected and costly repairs, with the average cost for a replacement liner at over $150,000. Matson has installed Parker Kittiwake’s LinerSCAN onto several of its vessels as part of a range of condition monitoring tools. Payback proved immediate, as on the first voyage after installation, the LinerSCAN system indicated increased wear on the cylinder liners.

USCG, Navy Continue Search for Student Overboard in Pacific

The Coast Guard and Navy are continuing the search for a student reported overboard from a Japanese training vessel approximately 70 miles southwest of Kauai, Tuesday. Coast Guard and Navy assets have searched 9,412 square miles totaling 83 search hours. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center were notified at 9:56 a.m., regarding a 17-year-old male Japanese national who was reported overboard from the 208-foot Japanese training vessel, Hokuho Maru during their transit from Honolulu to Japan. The man was last seen at approximately 2:50 a.m., and was reported missing after he did not show up for muster. He was last seen wearing a light green jump suit. It is not known if he was wearing a life jacket.

Japanese Student Overboard in the Pacific

U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) search operations continue for a student reported overboard from a Japanese training vessel approximately 70 miles southwest of Kauai, Tuesday. USCG said its watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center were notified at 9:56 a.m., regarding a 17-year-old male Japanese national who was reported overboard from the 208-foot Japanese training vessel Hokuho Maru during transit from Honolulu to Japan. The man was last seen at approximately 2:50 a.m., and was reported missing after he did not show up for muster. He was last seen wearing a light green jumpsuit, and it is unknown whether he was wearing a life jacket.

Towing Vessel Sinks off Oahu

A 95-foot towing vessel, Nalani, sank approximately two and half miles west of Barbers Point Harbor, Oahu, Thursday, the U.S. (USCG) Coast Guard reported. The 11 people on board Nalani were rescued safely. The pilot aboard the sinking towing vessel placed a call at 3:13 p.m. via VHF Channel 16, alerting USCG watchstanders at the Honolulu command center that the vessel was taking on water and was in danger of sinking. USCG Search for Boater Off Big Island

The Coast Guard is supporting the Hawaii County Fire Department in the search for a missing passenger from a grounded sailboat near Kaupuleu, Hawai'i, Sunday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Honolulu received notification at 6:36 a.m., of a flare sighting Saturday, from the Hawaii County Fire Department. The flares were later confirmed as having been fired by the crew of the 74-foot sailing vessel, Hawaii Aloha, who abandoned ship into a life raft. Four of the five boaters aboard the Hawaii Aloha were found in the life raft and rescued by the fire department. The vessel subsequently grounded and one crew member remains missing. Sinking Fishing Vessel and Crew Safe in Honolulu

The fishing vessel Pacifica moored safely in Honolulu Harbor Monday after taking on water when insufficient shaft packing in the stern tube allowed water to flood the vessel approximately 144 miles north northeast of Oahu, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported. USCG watchstanders at the Honolulu Command Center received a distress call from the commercial fishing vessel Pacifica at 8:58 a.m., Sunday, reporting that the vessel was taking on water at 10 gallons per minute and was continuing to make way toward Oahu at seven miles per hour. An HC-130 Hercules airplane crew launched from Air Station Barbers Point at 9:29 a.m., arrived on scene at 10:05 a.m., dropped dewatering equipment to the fishing vessel and remained on scene until the Coast Guard Cutter Kittiwake arrived at 4:30 p.m.

The fishing vessel Pacifica moored safely in Honolulu Harbor Monday after taking on water approximately 144 miles north northeast of Oahu. The cause of the flooding was determined to be insufficient shaft packing in the stern tube, which allowed water to enter the vessel. The Coast Guard Cutter Kittiwake, an 87-foot patrol boat homeported here, escorted the vessel back to the Port of Honolulu. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center received a distress call from the commercial fishing vessel Pacifica at 8:58 a.m., Sunday. The crew reported the vessel was taking on water at ten gallons per minute and was continuing to make way toward Oahu at 7 miles per hour. An HC-130 Hercules airplane crew launched from Air Station Barbers Point at 9:29 a.m.
