Law firm Mayer Brown advised CLP Power Hong Kong on the Hong Kong offshore LNG terminal project, which involves the use of floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) technology for the first time in Hong Kong. The FSRU will receive, store, and regasify LNG into two separate subsea gas pipelines to supply natural gas to Castle Peak Power Company Limited and Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd., generating power for Hong Kong residents.Mayer Brown advised CLP Power Hong Kong Limited on the FSRU charter and regasification agreements and operation and maintenance services to be provided to the offshore LNG terminal with Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), one of the world's largest shipping operators.

Belgium's Exmar is in negotiations for the use of its floating liquefied natural gas vessel Caribbean FLNG (CFLNG) for an Iranian export project, the company told Reuters on Thursday. The barge-based liquefaction facility, delivered to Exmar earlier this year, was initially destined to go to Colombia, but remains unemployed after its contract was terminated. The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said in a statement on its website it would supply natural gas for the project, led by Norway's IFLNG, and that it expected to use the Caribbean FLNG vessel.

Conventional wisdom in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector is that no new projects will be built for several years, given the vast cost can't be reconciled with the current low prices. This view has led some in the industry to predict that the market will flip back to a structural shortage sometime in the early to mid-2020s, once again sending prices soaring as new supply takes so long to be built and become operational. The cancellation or deferment of investment decisions on several projects in Australia, Canada, the United States and elsewhere seems to perfectly illustrate the view that no new LNG will be coming to market once the plants currently under construction are completed.

Honeywell has announced that it has received a contract to supply its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) automation controls and tank gauging systems for Finland’s first LNG import terminal. The new terminal will efficiently supply natural gas to marine vessels and industrial facilities in Finland, helping to replace other fuels that have higher emissions. Honeywell’s technology will help to efficiently supply natural gas to marine vessels and industrial facilities in Finland from Skangas Oy’s LNG facility in Pori. In addition, Honeywell’s Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) will connect and power comfort, safety and security systems within the LNG terminal itself.

The Linde Group, via its Swedish Engineering subsidiary Cryo AB, has been awarded a contract by Meyer Turku Shipyard of Finland to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel gas system for the next-generation high-speed ferry being built for AS Tallink Grupp. The ferry will operate in the Baltic Sea between Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia and has been designed to comply with the European Emission Control Area (ECA) limits thanks to the use of LNG as fuel. Lopez-led First Gen Corp (FGC) has started scouting for local and foreign partners for the construction of its $1-billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Batangas, to secure supply for its expanding portfolio of gas-fired power plants. The president of First Gen, one of the Southeast Asian nation's biggest power producers, Francis Giles Puno said they are already studying an option to build their own terminal, hiring top advisers to look at the sites and oversee the selection process. Puno said the First Gen had tapped Tractebel Engineering of France to do the detailed design of an onshore LNG terminal. He said First Gen would use the design as basis for the construction of the terminal.

Kitimat LNG Inc. announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Apache Corporation to supply natural gas to Kitimat LNG's proposed liquefied natural gas export terminal. The MOU sets a framework for Kitimat and Apache to negotiate a definitive agreement to supply 200 million to 300 million cubic feet (MMcf) of natural gas feedstock per day to the terminal, which has a planned capacity of 700 MMcf per day. Apache also obtained an option to purchase an equity stake in the Kitimat LNG terminal. As natural gas supply and reserves continue to increase in North America, Kitimat LNG's terminal will provide producers in Canada such as Apache with secure access to key worldwide markets.

Kitimat LNG Inc. announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with EOG Resources Canada (EOG) to supply natural gas to Kitimat LNG’s proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Kitimat, B.C. Pursuant to the MOU, Kitimat LNG and EOG are proceeding to negotiate a definitive agreement under which EOG would supply specific quantities of the LNG facility’s 700 million cubic feet per day of natural gas feedstock. “EOG’s participation in our project reinforces the fact that business and natural gas fundamentals support our LNG terminal,” said Rosemary Boulton, President of Kitimat LNG. EOG is the first producer to sign an MOU with Kitimat LNG.
