Fortescue Conducts World's First Ammonia Bunker Trial in Singapore

Fortescue has conducted the world's first ammonia marine bunker operation in the port of Singapore, the city-state's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and the Australian mining company said on Friday.The Singapore-flagged Fortescue Green Pioneer was loaded with liquid ammonia from an existing facility at Jurong Island's Vopak Banyan Terminal for the trial, Fortescue and MPA said in a joint statement.The vessel is dual-fuelled and can adopt ammonia for bunkering in combination with diesel.

Brassavola Completes Maiden Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering Operation

Seatrium has delivered Brassavola, Singaporeā€™s first membrane LNG bunker vessel built locally by the group, to owner Indah Singa Maritime, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL).Following delivery, Brassavola will be chartered by Pavilion Energy to supply LNG bunker in the Port of Singapore.The vessel, which is expected to start operations in February 2024, will also be deployed by TotalEnergies Marine Fuels to serve its customers under a long-term agreement with Pavilion Energy.Measuring 116.5 meters in length and 22 meters in widthā€¦

Singapore Picks Pilot Vessel Charging Concepts

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has selected companies that will pilot their vessel charging concepts in Singapore.The selection follows the call for proposal (CFP) by MPA in August 2023 to develop, operate, and maintain e-HC charging points in Singapore.From 12 proposals received, MPA selected Pyxis Energy, Pyxis Maritime, and SP Mobility partnershipā€™s proposed concept for trials at Marina South Pier. Singapore Sets Arrival Tonnage Record

The Port of Singapore has registered a record three billion gross tonnage (GT) in annual vessel arrival tonnage.The record was reached with the arrival of the 8,628 TEU, 98,799 GT Singapore-flagged container ship, ONE Olympus, at the Pasir Panjang Terminal on December 25, 2023.The annual vessel arrival tonnage at the Port of Singapore for 2023 is expected to reach just over three billion GT in 2023, up from 2.83 billion GT in 2022.The record was marked at an event organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and attended by Chee Hong Tat, Acting Minister for Transport.

Singapore, Los Angeles and Long Beach Develop Plans for Green Corridor

Partners Agree Emission Reductions on Rotterdam-Singapore Corridor

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Port of Rotterdam Authority and 20 partners in the Green & Digital Shipping Corridor are working to reduce 20% to 30% of emissions from international shipping by 2030. This was agreed at the third Green Corridor workshop, held this week in Rotterdam.The Green & Digital Shipping Corridor was established in August 2022 to bring together partners across the supply chain to realise zero and near-zero emissions shipping on the Rotterdam-Singapore route, with the ultimate aim to reach net-zero emissions in 2050.

Global Container Freight Still Stalled

MPA Calls for Electric Harbor Craft Proposals

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has issued an Expression of Interest inviting interested parties to submit proposals to design and promote the adoption of full-electric harbour craft in Singapore.The Ministry of Transport announced this year that the harbour craft, pleasure craft and tug boat sectors would be required to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 in line with Singaporeā€™s national net zero ambitions. To support this goal, operators with new harbour craft plans should inform the MPA about their plans from January 2027, so that the designs can be adjusted if required.

Monjasa Begins Bunkering Operations in Singapore

Marine fuels trader and supplier Monjasa announced it has commenced supply operations in the Port of Singapore, the worldā€™s largest bunkering hub.The Danish-based company said its Singapore operation now has one tanker in full service and that it expects to add two more tankers later this year.Morten Østergaard Jacobsen, Managing Director Asia, said, ā€œComing from 15 years as a trading company in Singapore, Monjasa is all set to embrace this new opportunity of controlling tonnage as well.

LR Releases Recommendations for Ammonia-Fueled Vessels

Global Freight Shows Signs of Bottoming Out

Global freight volumes fell at some of the fastest rates for three decades earlier this year, but at the end of the first quarter showed signs of bottoming out.Volumes were down by -2.1% between December and February compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Netherlands Bureau of Economic Policy Analysis (ā€œWorld trade monitorā€, CPB, April 25).The rate of decline was in the 8th percentile for all overlapping three-month periods since 1992; volumes have only fallen this fast during the last three recessions in 2020ā€¦

Singaporeā€™s First Hybrid Electric Bunker Vessel Delivered

Singaporeā€™s first hybrid bunker tanker, Marine Charge, has been delivered to V-Bunkers, Vitolā€™s Singaporean bunker operations company.The 7990-ton vessel, designed by SeaTech Solutions and built by Zhejiang Shenzhou Sunshine Heavy Industry is fitted with 480Kwh of Shiftā€™s energy storage system (ESS).Shift Clean Energyā€™s ESS will be primarily used for peak shaving (storing energy during low power consumption for use during peak usage periods, allowing main generators to operate with a more stable load).

V-Bunkers Unveils Singaporeā€™s First Electric-Hybrid Bunker Vessel

Vitolā€™s Singaporean bunker operations company, V-Bunkers, has announced the imminent delivery of what will be Singaporeā€™s first electric-hybrid bunker tanker.The vessel, Marine charge, features lithium-ion batteries and an automated Power Management System expected to achieve an estimated 10% reduction in GHG emissions.The design configuration enables the auxiliary engines to operate at the most optimal specific fuel oil consumption, while the energy storage system (ESS) performs peak shaving during low power consumption periods for usage of stored energy during high consumption periods.

Car Carrier Rescues 303 People in the South China Sea

Japanese shipping company NYK said a car carrier it operates rescued 303 people from a vessel in distress in the South China Sea.On November 7, the Japanese-flagged pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Helios Leader was sailing from Japan's port of Nagoya to the port of Singapore when it received a rescue request from the port authority of Sri Lanka via the port authority of Singapore.A Myanmar-flagged trawler Lady R3 was in distress about 258 nautical miles off the southeastern part of the Vung Tau cape.
