Catamaran Ferry Delivered to Ultramar

Mexican operator Ultramar has taken delivery of Ultramar II, the second in a series of new high capacity 48m catamaran passenger ferries.Ultramar II was built by Midship Marine in Harvey, La. and is specifically designed for the operator’s busy Playa de Carmen – Cozumel run, offering high capacity, high durability and a world-class passenger experience.According to designer Incat Crowther, the vessel’s fitout is yacht-like in keeping with Ultramar’s ‘Experience Innovation’ motto and includes aquarium-themed feature walls and glass pieces…

Robert Allan Announces New Tug Design

Gökçay, the first RApport 1600-SX tug, was run through its paces by her builders, Sanmar Shipyards, in late May and showed excellent performance in all respects. The new steel twin screw harbor tug is designed for high performance at a competitive cost. It has increased beam for better stability and excellent visibility in all directions from the compact wheelhouse. Conventional twin screw propulsion with twin nozzles and four rudders provide a bollard pull of 21 tons and a top speed of 11.5 knots with excellent maneuverability.

Passenger Ferry Delivered to New Caledonia

A new 36-meter monohull passenger ferry Mary D Seven has been delivered for Mary D Cruises in New Caledonia. Designed by Incat Crowther and built by Strategic Marine, the vessel will operate with yacht-like style on the route between Noumea and Amedee Island during the day, and as a dinner cruise vessel in the evenings, returning greater utilization of the asset. Northern Lights to feature its Diesel Exhaust Cleaning System (DECS) at the 2013 Progressive® Insurance Miami International Boat Show. Based on DCL International’s MARINE-X™ system, DECS removes soot and particulate matter as it is emitted from the diesel engine. The air and water quality on and around the vessel is vastly improved, offering a clean, enjoyable environment for everyone on board. When equipped with DECS, exhaust gas is routed through a catalytically coated ceramic filter, trapping soot and particulates.

The BRAtt: Burchett Robert Allan Training Tug

The BRAtt project evolved from Ron Burchett’s training programs for tug operators using radio-remote controlled scale models. Why not build a model that is large enough for the operator and instructor to ride on and learn in the same space frame of reference as the boat? The BRAtt is a 25.6 ft by 11.8 ft aluminum-hulled training tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd, with the designer’s distinctive double-chine hull form. Under the counter of the broad stern the hull tucks in quickly providing good water flow over the twin azimuthing drives located aft in the ASD manner.

Wesmar Wins ABS DP1 Approval

Wesmar announced that their Model V2-20NS Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thruster has been given ABS approval for dynamic positioning applications (DP1). The horsepower rating for the V2-20NS is 75 to 150, and the company anticipates similar approval soon for their V2-26 and V2-36 systems, which operate on vessels up to 350 HP. Wesmar’s polished stainless steel props are standard, and stainless steel seal with bearing carriers sync with the stainless steel casting. The counter rotating dual prop design, a Wesmar invention, provides up to 40% more thrust with the same tunnel size and with the same input power. (www.wesmar.com)

Austal Delivers Ferry For Operation In Malta

Ferry passengers on the Malta-Italy route will be able to enjoy new delivery with the introduction of Maria Dolores, an Austal Auto Express 68 metre vehicle-passenger ferry for Virtu Ferries. Set to replace the existing 52 metre ferry, Maria Dolores will have additional capacity to carry 600 passengers and 65 cars or 95 lane metres of trucks plus 35 cars on a vehicle deck. This new vessel will operate on routes from Malta to Italy; Valetta to Catania in 3 hours, to Pozzallo in 90 minutes and Reggio Calabria (mainland Italy) in 4 hours. Designed specifically for these routes, with aft and side ramps for rapid turnaround and a Moulded Depth of 6.3 metres (approximately 20% higher than comparable size Austal ferries)…
