HII Names Borkey Chief Technology Officer

Defense and technologies company HII announced on Monday that Todd Borkey has been promoted to executive vice president and chief technology officer, effective immediately and reporting directly to HII President and CEO Chris Kastner.The move comes during a time of technological advancement for HII and expands the scope of responsibilities for Borkey, who has served as chief technology officer of HIIā€™s Mission Technologies division since 2021. Nuclear Cargo Ship to Be Decommissioned in Scotland

A long-serving nuclear cargo vessel has made its final voyage and will be decommissioned in Scotland.Earlier this month, Oceanic Pintail set sail from Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria, for the final time, and now 98% of the 3,865-tonne vessel will be recycled by Leith firm Dales Marine Services, an EU List approved supplier of vessel decommissioning.Oceanic Pintail, operated by International Nuclear Services (INS), was launched in 1987 and has served the U.K. nuclear industry for the last 33 years.Peter Buchanā€¦

Sulzer Takes Measures in the Pumps Equipment Division

Based on the current challenging environment in the oil and gas market, Sulzer decided to take measures to streamline the manufacturing capacities of its Pumps Equipment division. Since the beginning of 2015, Sulzerā€™s Pumps Equipment division has been organized in three market-oriented business units Oil and Gas, Power, and Water, a dedicated global Parts, Retrofit, and Nuclear Services organization, and a Global Operations network. With the new setup, the company targets to make better use of its capacity and improve quality. At the same time, the oil and gas market remains challenging, leading to low investment levels and project suspensions.

General Dynamics Bags Nuclear Submarine Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $32.6 million contract modification to perform nuclear-maintenance work for submarines homeported at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. Under the contract, Electric Boat will continue to operate the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department (NRMD) at the submarine base. The company will provide project management, planning, training and nuclear services to support maintenance, modernization and repairs. A core group of about 25 Electric Boat employees are assigned to the NRMD, with surge groups of up to 100 shipyard employees assigned for short periods.

Flynn Refrigeration Completes Upgrade on Nuclear Carrier

Flynn Refrigeration has delivered a major package of improvements to the refrigeration and air-conditioning system onboard a vessel used to transport specialist nuclear materials around the world. Working under contract to ship managers, Serco, the UK based-company completed the retrofit and conversion project on International Nuclear Servicesā€™ (INS) MV Oceanic Pintail. Managing director Alex Flynn said the extensive refrigeration and air conditioning work took 18 months to complete. MV Oceanic Pintail has carried nuclear material globally for 27 years.

HII Creates Nuclear Services Company SN3

Combining Huntington Ingalls Industriesā€™ (HII) S.M. Stoller Corp. and Newport News Nuclear subsidiaries, the company has created Stoller Newport News Nuclear (SN3), a full-service nuclear operations and environmental services company. "Formation of SN3 is a logical next step in the post-acquisition process of fully integrating our people and capabilities to achieve our business goals," said Pete Diakun, vice president, energy programs at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding division.

General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. has been awarded a contract modification for NRMD tasks in support of operational nuclear submarines. Secondly, York International has been awarded a contract for shipboard air-conditioning & refrigeration system work. General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn. The company is being awarded a $36,137,340 cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-13-C-4311) to provide a Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department (NRMD).

HII Acquires Environmental & Nuclear Specialists Stoller Corp

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has acquired The S.M. Stoller Corporation (Stoller), a leading provider of environmental, nuclear, and technical consulting and engineering services to the Department of Energy, Department of Defense and the private sector. Stoller will be a wholly owned subsidiary of HII and will operate under its NNS division. NNS is the nation's sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two shipyards capable of designing and building nuclearā€powered submarines.

U.S. Navy Awards General Dynamics $17 Million for Support Services

The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat two contract modifications worth a total value of $16.8 million to perform nuclear and nonnuclear maintenance work for submarines homeported at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. Under the first contract, valued at $8.8 million, Electric Boat will continue to operate the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department (NRMD) at the submarine base. The company will provide project management, planning, training and nuclear services to support maintenance, modernization and repairs.

Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. Under the contract, Electric Boat will continue to operate the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department (NRMD) at the submarine base. The company will provide project management, planning, training and nuclear services to support maintenance, modernization and repairs. A core group of about 25 Electric Boat employees are assigned to the NRMD, with surge groups of up to 100 shipyard employees assigned for short periods. The company has been awarded two initial contract modifications to date, valued at $25 million.

New Navy Contract

General Dynamics, Electric Boat, Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $6,290,977 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-06-C-4003) for Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department tasks in support of operational nuclear submarines including maintaining and modernizing Government-owned facilities and equipment and providing off-hull support of submarine maintenance. The contractor will provide supervisory personnel as necessary, program management, engineering and planning, training, inspection and nuclear services to accomplish intermediate-level nuclear submarine maintenance, modernization and repairs. The contractor shall accomplish naval nuclear work tasks using approved processes, technical work documents, and equipment.
