Levesque Named President of CMA CGM America

French shipping group CMA CGM on Thursday announced it has appointed Peter Levesque to take over as president of CMA CGM America and American President Lines (APL) upon Ed Aldridge's retirement on December 6.Levesque is an international global supply chain executive with more than 30 years of industry leadership experience, who until 2021 was president of Ports America Group. AAPA Elects Strawbridge as Next Board Chairman

Trade group the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) elected a new Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sean Strawbridge of the Port of Corpus Christi, last week during its 111th Annual Convention and Expo in Orlando, Fla. Outgoing Chairman Mario Cordero of the Port of Long Beach made the formal announcement during his address to members and attendees.AAPA President and CEO Chris Connor remarked on the transition, "Our work at AAPA is bolstered by the leadership and input of our chairperson and board of directors.

Port of Virginia Names Edwards CEO

The Virginia Port Authority Board (VPA) of Commissioners today introduced Stephen Edwards as the next leader of The Port of Virginia. He succeeds John F. Reinhart who for the last seven years has led the VPA as its CEO and executive director.Edwards has extensive experience in the global transportation industry most recently as the president and CEO of TraPac, LLC (TraPac), which operates container terminals in Los Angeles, Oakland and Florida. His tenure with the VPA begins on January 19, 2021.“I am delighted to be joining the Virginia Port Authority team in January,” Edwards said.

Two Finalist Proposals for New Port of Philadelphia Terminal

Less than three months after seeking proposals from interested parties to design, operate and maintain a major new marine terminal in South Philadelphia, Governor Edward G. Rendell announced on July 23 the shortlist of teams that will continue in the solicitation process developing a public-private partnership that is expected to bring millions of dollars of investment to the region. One of the teams selected was a consortium comprising Delaware River Stevedores (DRS) and Hyundai Merchant Marine America (HMMA). DRS is a joint venture between Carrix Inc., and Ports America Group, the two largest independent terminal operating companies in the United States. DRS has vast stevedoring experience at several major U.S. ports, including the Port of Philadelphia.

Port of Oakland, Public-Private Partnership

O’Melveny & Myers LLP represented the Port of Oakland, the third busiest Port on the U.S. West Coast, in an inaugural bidding process for a long-term concession to operate, maintain and further develop a land water-side site comprising approximately 175 acres of its maritime operations area. The transaction is valued at nearly $700m and marks the first public-private partnership, or P3 arrangement, of its kind in the U.S. ports sector. The successful bidder for the concession is Ports America Outer Harbor Terminal, LLC, a joint venture of Ports America Group and Terminal Investment Limited. As concessionaire, it will have exclusive rights to operate the site for a term of 50 years and maximize the economic use of the area, starting in January 2010 when it will take possession of the site.

Ports America Appoints Tilden

Douglas Tilden has been named to the advisory board of Ports America Group. Tilden most recently served as chairman of Ports America Group, the largest stevedoring and terminal operating company in the Americas providing services at 97 terminals in 50 U.S. ports. Ports America Group (PAG) is an affiliated group of terminal operating companies owned by Highstar Capital, a leading infrastructure fund. Tilden’s career in the shipping industry began in 1969 with United States Lines. His most recent position as chairman of Ports America Group led to his appointment as senior strategic analyst to the advisory board, which oversees the operation of Ports America Group.
