IT Bug Jams Baltic-North Sea Traffic

A software problem that blocked all ship traffic in the main channel between the Baltic and the North Sea on Sunday was not a hacker attack and has been fixed, a spokesperson for Germany's Kiel Canal Waterways and Shipping Authority said on Monday.The incident was caused by the installation of a new vessel traffic management software system, the spokesperson said.Fixing a small error in the code allowed the channel to go back into full operation after more than 12 hours of outage, the spokesperson added."The traffic controller went down at 8 o'clock yesterday morning.

Mont Hope Selects DNV GL's ShipManager

Mont Hope Ship Management, a new and specialized company focusing on services for vessels engaged in energy segments, is implementing DNV GL’s integrated software system ShipManager on the entire fleet in order to optimize operations and improve performance. Mont Hope Ship Management is a new company, started in May 2015 and based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Concurrent with the start-up, they began the process of selecting a comprehensive fleet management software system to support efficient and safe operations, as well as to improve business performance. The amount of resources needed to gather data from various sources can be challenging and inefficient.

Vertom-Bojen Choose DNV GL Shipmanger Software

Vertom-Bojen Bereederungs GmbH & Co. KG is implementing DNV GL’s ShipManager integrated fleet management software to further improve cost efficiency, process optimization and quality of operations for 41 vessels. When Vertom and Bojen Reederei established the new organization Vertom-Bojen, the fleet consisted of vessels with different software setups that were not integrated. Data was collected, but the system was not streamlined in order to extract insights for management decisions. The management team at Vertom-Bojen realized that a new fleet management system was needed. Using several different software systems to manage one fleet can be costly, inefficient and lead to communication challenges between vessels and onshore management.

ClassNK, IHIMU, DU, and IBM Japan to Develop Software

ClassNK, IHI Marine United (IHIMU), Diesel United (DU) and IBM Japan have announced they will jointly develop a ship maintenance management system to help reduce ship lifecycle cost. The jointly developed system, which will make use of the latest condition monitoring sensor technology and data analysis systems, will be offered by ClassNK as a cloud-based service to shipowners, managers and operators from June 2013. As ships face dramatically changing ocean conditions, appropriate maintenance and condition monitoring of on-board machinery is essential to ensuring smooth operations. Formosa Plastics Marine Selects ABS Nautical Systems

ABS Nautical Systems announced that its fully integrated asset management software suite NS5 has been selected for trial by Formosa Plastics Marine Corp. (FPMC), part of the Formosa Plastics Group - the only privately owned Taiwan oil refinery and the second largest gasoline and gasoil producer in Taiwan. This new relationship marks the entry of ABS Nautical Systems into the Taiwan market and continues its expansion throughout Asia. FPMC will evaluate several modules from the NS5 software suite through the ABS Newbuild Program including Maintenance & Repair, Hull Inspection and Drawings Management. When making a decision to assess ABS Nautical Systems’ offerings, FPMC was particularly interested in the software’s capability for class integration with the ABS Eagle Survey Manager program.

Teekay Selects ABS Nautical Systems

ABS Nautical Systems has been selected by Teekay Corporation, which moves more than 10 percent of the world’s seaborne oil, as their fleet management software provider. Teekay will be replacing a legacy management software system they currently have in place with ABS Nautical Systems’ fully integrated system which allows for a more streamlined approach to fleet management. Teekay will implement the Maintenance & Repair, Purchasing & Inventory and Drydocking modules from ABS Nautical Systems’ software suite, NS5. SpecTec New Yacht Projects

AMELS’ 171 semi-custom mega yacht series.

SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management software system to M/Y Slipstream and sister vessel M/Y Cloud Nine. Both vessels are currently under construction at CMN shipyard in Cherbourg, France and are due for delivery in February and June 2009 respectively. SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management and documentation system to the next two vessels of AMELS’ 171 semi-custom mega yacht series. Both vessels are currently under construction at the yard’s Vlissingen facility and will be delivered mid 2009.
