Grandweld Shipyard in Dubai has delivered four new tractor tugs for operations in Kuwait’s Shuwaikh Port.The four TRAktor 2700-Z vessels Ghanim-1, Ghanim-2, Ghanim-3 and Ghanim-4 were designed by Robert Allan Ltd., who worked closely with the Grandweld Shipyard to develop the customized design of the previously built 27-meter TRAktor tug series. Grandweld shipyard has won a contract with offshore support vessel firm Stanford Marine to build two 42-meter GrandSuperior crew boats with the keel-laying ceremony recently completed. These are Grandweld’s 11th and 12th vessels built for Stanford Marine.Jamal Abki, General Manager of Grandweld Shipyards said “In 2021, we have secured multiple shipbuilding contracts worth $30 million. Although 2020 was difficult for the industry as a whole, we saw a surge in business. This has continued in 2021 and we now have a solid order book until the end of 2022.

Announced in June 2011, Bourbon and CGG entered a five-year charter agreement for a series of six custom newbuild seismic support vessels. Now more than two years later, the third ship in the series, Bourbon Gannet, is due to enter service in the early part of 2014, following the launch of the first two vessels, Bourbon Petrel and Bourbon Fulmar, in summer and autumn 2013, respectively. The remaining three sister vessels are under construction in Dubai’s Grandweld Shipyard, also slated for launch in 2014.

In 2011, Bourbon entered a five-year charter agreement with CGG for a series of six new seismic support vessels, an industry first. Two years later, the Bourbon Petrel and the Bourbon Fulmar are already in service in the Black Sea and Northern Europe, and a third vessel, the Bourbon Gannet, will also be operational in the near future. Grandweld Shipyards has been awarded a repeat order from Zamil Offshore, to build a new 33.5M fast aluminum crew boat. This will be Zamil’s fourth order to Grandweld Shipyards after the successful delivery of three sister vessels in 2012. The new vessel will be based on Grandweld’s in –house superior design, and will be powered by 3 high speed diesel engines driving 3 fixed pitch propellers to produce speeds in excess of 25 knots. The 33.5M will be designed and built according to the classification rules and requirements of Bureau Veritas for Aluminum vessels. The vessel will be utilized to transport personnel and support offshore oil & gas operations. According to the contract, the vessel is scheduled for delivery in June 2014.

The new escort tugboats will be manufactured by Grandweld, a UAE-based shipbuilding, ship repair and conversion specialist, which was chosen after a close evaluation process of over eight worldwide shipbuilders. The keel laying ceremony was held on Thursday the 15th of September in Grandweld’s Shipyard in Dubai and was presided over by Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, Vice President-Ports Operations of ADPC, who gave a welcoming speech and described the event as a momentous and proud occasion for ADPC.

On Valentine’s Day this year the crew boat Stanford Swan was delivered to Stanford Marine of Dubai by Grandweld Shipyard also of . Designed by Grandweld, the 41 by 7.3-meter vessel has a molded depth of 3.5 meters. This volume allows tankage for 15,873 gallons of fuel and 10,582 gallons of water. In addition to accommodations for a crew of ten, the new boat has seating for 60 offshore personnel. The aft deck can carry 35 tons of cargo. A HYPAC HHAW151611 anchor winch is mounted on the foredeck. Main engines are three Cummins KTA38-M2 each producing 1350 hp at 1950 RPM and swinging 5-bladed fixed pitch propellers slightly over square with 43.3 in diameters and 45.35 inches of pitch. The props are mounted on 3.8-meter long shafts with 114.3 mm diameters.

With twin Cummins KTA50 M2 engines each producing 1800 HP at 1900 RPM the crewboat Umm Al Rous has the power to move 12 off-shore personnel in comfort and safety at speeds of 25 knots using only 80 percent of her maximum continuous duty rating. At 25.3-meters, the solidly built boat assures comfort even in a heavy sea. With a 6.1-meter beam and a 2.8-meter depth, the vessel’s hull has a spacious engine room and ample soundproofing to assure a quiet ride. The vessel is equipped with two control stations. Designed and built by the Grandweld Shipyard in , UAE the vessel was delivered to her owners Nakilat Svitzerwijsmuller WLL in late January 2008. She is operated by a crew of three and has tankage for 2906 gallons of fuel, 578 gallons of water and 57 USG of lube oil.

The oil industry is one of the primary motivators in current boat building and the Middle East is one of the primary sources of oil. To reflect the central importance of this region Grandweld Shipyard in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is gaining an ever-larger reputation in the construction of vessels to meet the oil industry requirements. Of particular note are their Cummins-powered aluminum crew boats. In 204 and 2005 Arabian Gulf Mechanical & Contracting took deliver from Grandweld of a series of five 30.5-meter crewboats each powered by a pair of Cummins KTA38 M2 engines. In the same time period Inchcape Shippping took delivery of a 33.5-meter crew boat powered by three Cummins KTA38 M2 engines.
