A/S Dampskibsselskabet TORM Orders Two More Newbuildings

Dampskibsselskabet TORM (TORM) a shipping company specializing in the worldwide commercial operation of a fleet of tankers and bulk carriers, has signed a contract with Dalian New Shipbuilding Ltd. in the People's Republic of China for construction of two high specification 110,000 dwt Aframax (LR2) product tankers. This order is based on the two options granted when TORM placed the initial order for two vessels in June 2003. TORM has an option for a further two vessels. The two vessels are due to be delivered in 1st and 2nd quarter 2007, and represent the latest additions to the substantial newbuilding program initiated in 1999. The seven remaining newbuildings will be delivered in 2003-7 and represent an investment of more than $250 million.

Tankers to Get Sulzer RT-flex Engines

The Sulzer RT-flex engines with the new common-rail technology for fuel injection and valve operation are proving to be popular with shipowners resulting in a steady intake of confirmed orders. The most recent newbuildings to be equipped with Sulzer RT-flex engines are four 110,000 tdw Aframax product tankers contracted at Dalian New Shipbuilding Ltd in the People's Republic of China by the Danish owner A/S Dampskibsselskabet Torm. The ships are for delivery between the first quarter 2006 and the second quarter 2007. The tankers will each be propelled by a Sulzer 7RT-flex58T-B low-speed engine of 14,875 kW (20,230 bhp) maximum continuous output at 105 rev/min. The four engines will be built under licence from Wärtsilä Corporation by Dalian Marine Diesel Works in China.

News: China Preps To Take World Lead

Rapidly rising prices for steel plate in China may be taking the edge off the financial performance at some Chinese shipbuilders. But it will take a lot more than that to undermine shipyards' dramatic expansion plans aimed at ensuring the country's builders produce more ships than any other nation by 2015. In the short run, however, the country's relatively inexperienced builders seem to have failed to read the steel supply signs. TORM Orders Tanker from China

A/S Steamship Co TORM signed a contract with Dalian New Shipbuilding Ltd. in the People's Republic of China for construction of one high-specification 110,000 dwt Aframax (LR2) product tanker. This order is based on an option granted when TORM placed an order for two vessels in October 2003. In addition, TORM has also signed a contract to acquire the 1995-built MR product tanker TORM ALICE from Rederi AB Gotland. The newly constructed vessel is due to be delivered during the first quarter of 2008 and represents the latest addition to the substantial newbuilding program initiated in 1999. The six remaining newbuildings will be delivered in 2004-8 and represent an investment of more than USD 200 million.

A.P. Moller - Maersk Group Signs Contract for China Built Vessels

The Danish A.P. Moller - Maersk Group has signed contracts with Dalian New Shipbuilding and Guangzhou Shipyard International firming up orders to build four vessels for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group’s fleet of product tankers. With the signing of these contracts, the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group has since 1996 ordered 51 large ocean going vessels from Chinese shipyards, representing a value exceeding USD 1.5 billion, making the Group the largest foreign buyer of vessels build in China. LR Asia Wins Major China Order

Lloyd’s Register Asia has signed a contract with Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co, Ltd (DNS) for its single biggest order in China to date, for 17 ships (seven VLCCs and 10 container ships), representing a total of over 1,500,000 gt.

Maersk Ships to Get Solasolv Screens

Solar Solve Marine received an order from Maersk Ship Design to supply 10 ships with its famous Solasolv anti-glare roller screens for a number of 308,000dwt crude oil tankers at the renamed Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries in north east China. Formerly Dalian New Shipbuilding, the yard was the first in China to build very large crude carriers and delivered its first such vessel in 2003. The new tankers, which are due for delivery from next year, will be the biggest they have built so far. Solar Solve Marine moved last year to a purpose-built factory at Tyne Dock, South Shields. Patriot Mechanical Handling Receives Order from Dalian

Patriot Mechanical Handling Inc. received an order worth $3.28 million from Dalian New Shipbuilding, which is based in Dalian, China, according to a China Knowledge report. The Dalian order calls for Patriot to deliver 4 CTUs (Conductor Tensioning Systems) on the new builds which are purchased by Noble drilling, Seatankers, and COSL respectively. Patriot also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Dalian New Shipbuilding to supply the latter with additional Subsea handling equipment over the next 12 months. Source: China Knowledge

Patriot Mechanical Handling Inc. announce that it has received an order from Dalian New Shipbuilding, based in Dalian, China. This is an expansion of an existing relationship with Dalian, which the company expects to continue to grow. The Dalian order calls for Patriot to deliver 4 CTU's (Conductor Tensioning Systems) on the new builds being purchased by Noble drilling, Seatankers, and COSL respectively. The order is valued at $3,286,000. Additional options are being considered by Dalian, which would increase the order amount accordingly. Patriot also obtained a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to supply Dalian with additional Subsea handling equipment over the next 12 months as needed.

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co was formed by the merger of Dalian Shipyard Co and Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Dalian Shipyard, with more than a 100-year history, used to be one of China's big military shipbuilders. Dalian New Shipbuilding, established 15 years ago, was one of the country's biggest shipbuilders. Both the companies were subsidiaries of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. Dalian Shipyard, with more than a 100-year history, used to be one of China's big military shipbuilders. Dalian New Shipbuilding, established 15 years ago, was one of the country's biggest shipbuilders. Both the companies were subsidiaries of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. The new shipyard expects to output vessels of 2 million tons next year and more than 2.6 million tons in 2007, according to Xinhua.

Qingdao and CNOOC Sign Contract

The Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) have recently signed a contract on the building of a 100,000-ton FPSO (floating, production, storage and offloading) vessel in Haixi Bay of Qingdao. Qingdao will thus become China's third FPSO vessel building base after Dalian and Shanghai. FPSO, used for offshore oil exploitation and production, has a high technology content and is difficult to build. In China, only the Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. can build such special vessels at present. The cooperation between CNOOC and Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industries seeks to transform Haixi Bay of Qingdao into the country's most powerful FPSO vessel building base.
