Ship management and marine support services giant V.Group said on Wednesday it has appointed René Kofod-Olsen as the company’s chief executive officer, taking over from Graham Westgarth who will become chairman. Kofod-Olsen will join V. Group on November 1.Kofod-Olsen brings to the role almost three decades of global shipping industry experience. Svitzer, part of Denmark-based A.P. Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has told Transocean, Maersk Drilling and Odfjell Drilling to beef up emergency evacuation equipment and procedures on 22 offshore oil rigs, it said on Wednesday.Drilling rigs are equipped with enclosed lifeboats that can be dropped into the ocean in an emergency and owners must meet a series of technical and operational requirements for how to plan and carry out evacuations."All the audits identified a non-conformity from the regulations.

Maersk Fluid Technology (MFT) has reported a recent influx of orders for its SEA-Mate Blending-on-Board (BOB) system as confirmation of industry demand for technological solutions that enable ship operators to blend fit-for-purpose cylinder lubricant compositions on board their vessels that match actual engine operating conditions and fuel sulphur levels. The use of this type of technology can reduce cylinder oil consumption and alleviate issues such as cold corrosion and excessive cylinder wear, according to MFT.

The world's biggest container shipping company Maersk Line will pay 3.7 billion euros ($4.02 billion) for its acquisition of smaller German rival Hamburg Sud, it said on Friday. Combined, the two companies will be able to realise annual operational savings of about $350 million to $400 million, Maersk Line said in a statement fleshing out detail on the deal announced in December. Maersk Line, a unit of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, has retained its position as the world’s largest container shipping line, according to Alphaliner. It is still the world’s largest ocean carrier by capacity but its closest rivals, Mediterranean Shipping Co. and CMA CGM, posted higher fleet growth rates during 2015. It is safe from its closest rivals with a fleet growth of 4.1 percent in 2015, data from Alphaliner shows. Maersk has cut sharply on Asia-Europe but have moved ships elsewhere. It had a total operated capacity of 3.01m teu across 584 ships at the beginning of the year, compared with nearest rival MSC’s 484 ships for 2.67m teu.

India's Adani Group is likely to take over the operational and management control of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Kattupalli International Container Terminal near Chennai, reports Business Standard. Adani is in the final stage of getting into an arrangement with L&T to take over the terminal, which the Mumbai-based construction and engineering major built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore ($645 million). It is learnt that the AP Moller–Maersk Group, a Danish business conglomerate, is also in the race to acquire the container terminal operations of the Katupalli port. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd is evaluating the option of taking over the operation and maintenance of other ports too. Also on its radar are ports in Gangavaram, Andhra Pradesh, and Karaikal, Puducherry.

The AP Moller-Maersk Group subsidiary Maersk Supply Service,, which is part of the "fifth leg" in the light blue conglomerate, is divesting up to 20 vessels over the coming 18 months and reducing its crew pool by 400 offshore positions. The divestment plan is a response to vessels in lay-up, limited trading opportunities and the global over-supply of offshore supply ships. The first ten vessels are expected to exit the fleet in 2016, reports Denmark's local media 'Business'. Maersk Line, the container shipping unit in the A.P. Moller-Maersk group in Copenhagen, says it will cut about 16% of its capacity on the West Central Asia-Europe trade lane. "In our continuous effort to provide our customers with an attractive and competitive West Central Asia / Europe network - both in terms of capacity and coverage - Maersk Line is enhancing the ME1, ME2 and ME3 services and discontinuing the ME5 service with effect from October 2015," says a statement from the company. The closure of the ME5 will result in a capacity reduction corresponding to approximately 16 percent of our dedicated West Central Asia / Europe service capacity. The termination of the service will not impact our ability to serve our customers in the market that the ME5 covers.

Maersk Line, the world's largest container shipping company and a part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk group, sees its capacity market share slipping to around 14 percent in 2017 from 15.9 percent now, according to presentations. Between now and 2016, the company says it expects to keep up with market growth and retierated it would spend about $3 bilion a year until 2020 in new vessel orders as well as new containers and on maintainance, according to a presentation that will be given to investors on Wednesday. A.P. Moller-Maersk Group has entered an agreement with AT&T to use its Internet of Things (IoT) technology to connect its refrigerated containers. In what is reported to be one of the largest industrial IoT deployments of its kind, Maersk is working with AT&T to track and monitor the condition of refrigerated containers with perishable goods. China State Council has given the go-ahead for country's two largest shipping conglomerates to merge, continuing a trend in the industry to trim down state-owned enterprises, reports Caixin Media. The China Ocean Shipping Co. (COSCO Group) and China Shipping Group Co. have been working on a deal since August. The listed subsidiaries of the two firms are expected to make separate statements on their next step on December 11, the executive said. Meanwhile, WSJ reported that the shipping companies plan to issue details of their long-expected  multibillion-dollar merger plans as early as Friday, quoting people with knowledge of the matter.
