Lloyd’s Register Acquires Voyage Solutions Provider OneOcean

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has acquired OneOcean, a supplier of voyage compliance, safety and environmental solutions, from European mid-market private equity firm Equistone Partners Europe.The addition of OneOcean will expand LR’s existing digital solutions portfolio, which already includes fleet management (Hanseaticsoft) and vessel performance and optimization (i4Insight, C-MAP Commercial and Greensteam).OneOcean was created by the merger of ChartCo, in which Equistone first invested in 2016, and Marine Press in 2019.

LR and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop an autonomous ready ship design to support maritime digitalization and the growing demand for operational benefits of increased autonomy.SAS (Samsung Autonomous Ship) is an autonomous navigation system which integrates current navigation equipment, such as ECDIS with TCS (Track Control System), RADAR, CONNING, and remote controlled BMS, with SHI’s new SVISION system, using technology to eliminate human error which accounts for the majority of maritime accidents.

Lloyd’s Register Foundation announced the appointment of a new CEO to take the charity into its second decade.Dr. Ruth Boumphrey will take over from outgoing CEO Professor Richard Clegg following his retirement June 30, 2022. Samsung's Ammonia-fueled Tanker Design Gets LR AIP

Brown to Succeed Marsh as CEO at Lloyd's Register

LR's Board said that Nick Brown, 45, currently Marine & Offshore Director, will succeed Marsh as Group CEO and join the LR Group Board on January 1, 2021.

After 14-years at Lloyd's Register (LR), including five years as group CEO, Alastair Marsh announced that he is stepping down from his role and will retire from the Lloyd’s Register group board on December 31, 2020. LR's board said that Nick Brown, currently Marine & Offshore Director, will succeed Marsh as group CEO and join the LR group board on January 1, 2021. “Alastair is an exceptional business leader who has transformed the company during his tenure, delivering on a five-year modernization and cultural change strategy," said LR Chairman, Thomas Thune Andersen.

LR Gets Italian RO Status

The maritime classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has been awarded recognized organization status by the Italian flag administration and is now authorized to issue statutory certification on its behalf to all seagoing ships sailing with the Italian flag.In line with its new RO status, LR will establish an Italy branch of LR Group Ltd so the classification society can fully support Italy and the country’s shipowners.As LR will be authorised to work on behalf of the Italian flag Administration, owners of Italian-flagged ships will have the opportunity to work with LR for classification and consultancy services and benefit from LR’s extensive technical expertise.By having RO status…

Waldner Appointed LR's Group CFO

Global engineering, technical and business services organisation, Lloyd’s Register (LR), has announced the appointment of Mary Waldner as Group CFO. Mary is currently Group Finance Director at FTSE 250 listed defence, security, transport and energy company Ultra Electronics and replaces Alastair Marsh’s as LR’s Group CFO following his appointment as CEO of the Lloyd’s Register group in October 2015. Mary has a broad range of experience in a variety of sectors and an excellent track record of delivery throughout a number of senior financial roles with major public limited companies. After graduating from Oxford University with an MA in Physics, Mary started her career at Coopers & Lybrand Management Consultancy Services, before working for Vauxhall Motors Ltd.

ABS, DNV, LR Take Action

Three leading bodies responsible for surveying ships and verifying them as seaworthy launched an initiative on Thursday aimed at dispelling growing industry concern about the thoroughness of safety checks. Classification societies Lloyd's Register (LR), the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) said they had laid down a 10-point action plan. "We've got to get away from this reputation that we... most definitely have of being too slow to react (to safety concerns)," said LR chief executive officer David Moorhouse. Classification societies' surveyors conduct detailed surveys of ships for corrosion and safety hazards every year. The leading 10 classification societies have long been governed by one industry body, IACS, of which they are all members.

LR Appoints New Commercial Director

Gael Lewis was elected commercial director at Lloyd's Register (LR), effective February 14. In this newly created position, Lewis, who joined LR as manager, special projects this past December, will work with LR's business and regional directors to establish a global pricing policy for the LR Group. He will also be responsible for helping to implement new internal approval procedures and contract bids.

LR Announces SSEE Winner

Compania Naviera Minera del Golfo SA de CV (Navimin) of Mexico has won the Standard Ship Emergency Exercise Award from Lloyd's Register (LR). The award was made to Mr. Javier Villegas-Serralta, general director of Navimin, at a presentation held in Mexico City. The presentation was made by John Stansfeld, LR's group regional manager for the Americas, on behalf of Dr. David Aldwinckle, manager of LR's Ship Emergency Response Service (SERS). The award is given by SERS in recognition of an outstanding commitment to staging Standard Ship Emergency Exercises (SSEEs). During 1998, Navimin held three exercises, involving different scenarios, on each of their chemical tankers.
