Seakeeper Unveils New Gyrostabilizer Models

Seakeeper has launched two new gyrostabilizer models the Seakeeper 10.5 and the Seakeeper 14, designed for vessels ranging from 50 feet to 68 feet long.The Seakeeper 10.5, engineered for boats 50-62 feet, evolved from its two predecessors, the Seakeeper 9 and the inaugural M7000 and offers 17% more angular momentum in 23% less volume.The Seakeeper 14, suited for boats 55-68 feet, bridges a gap in the current lineup between the Seakeeper 9 and the Seakeeper 18. The new model is is 43% smaller and 33% lighter than the Seakeeper 18.

New Autonomous Hydrographic Survey Vessel Design Unveiled

Boatbuilder SAFE Boats International on Monday introduced Merlin, a new 23-meter semi-displacement monohull autonomous hydrographic survey vessel design developed in collaboration with Mythos AI, Echo81, and World Marine Design.SAFE Boats has exclusive rights to build the design at its Tacoma, Wash. large-craft production facility. Merlin will be a Jones Act-compliant all-aluminum hull powered by a twin Volvo Penta D13 Hybrid-ready System with IPS. For a zero-emission power package, the Merlin can accommodate forward-thinking hydrogen technology supplied by Zero Emission Industries (ZEI).

Gladding-Hearn Delivers New Launch to Galtex Pilots

The Galveston-Texas City Pilots has taken delivery of its fourth pilot boat from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation. The new launch is equipped with a Seakeeper 30HD stabilizing gyro, which, according to shipyard officials, will reduce up to 80% the vessel’s roll.With a length overall of 73.2’, beam of 23.3’ and draft of 5.9’, the all-aluminum, high-speed pilot boat features the Ray Hunt Design deep-V hull. It is powered by three Volvo Penta D13, EPA Tier 3 marine diesel engines, each delivering 800 Bhp at 2,300 rpm, and integral to the engines’ triple IPS-Pod 1050 system.

Seakeeper 18 Launched in Cannes

Seakeeper launched its newest model, the Seakeeper 18, at the Cannes Yachting Festival.Designed to provide more angular momentum without increasing weight, size or power, the Seakeeper 18 is a new option for boats ~65-75 feet (~20-23 meters) or up to ~56 tons. The Seakeeper 18 packs a punch with 18,000 Newton-meter-seconds (N-m-s) of angular momentum, the standard in measuring gyroscopic output, but in the same footprint as the Seakeeper 16 (16,000 N-m-s).The Seakeeper 18 will be available for shipment beginning late 2019 and will retail for $119,900.Additional specs include:Weight: 2,244 lbs.

MIW to Build Special Purpose Tour Boat

Moran Iron Works, Inc. (MIW) signed a contract with Pictured Rocks Kayaking (PRK) to build a specialized passenger tour vessel. Together, and in conjunction with DLBA (a division of Gibbs & Cox, Inc.), they are creating a special purpose tour boat that is first of its kind in the Great Lakes region.The 64’ by 19’ vessel will be constructed out of aluminum at Moran Iron Works’ headquarters in Onaway, Michigan. The purpose of this particular unnamed vessel is to escort 72 passengers and 36 kayaks around Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore for guided kayak tours.

Even Mother Nature Can’t Dent the Enthusiasm at this Year’s MACC.Curtis Bay, MD: On the morning after the Baltimore, MD area received a record 3.5 inches of torrential rain in just 90 minutes, this year’s Multi-Agency Craft Conference (MACC) kicked off without a hitch at the United States Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, MD. Bourque Joins Sea Machines

Seakeeper 6 Unveiled for 40'-49' Vessels

Seakeeper Inc. has released its newest model, the Seakeeper 6, designed to eliminate up to 95 percent of boat roll on 40- to 49-foot vessels, up to roughly 20 tons. While providing a level of stabilization comparable to Seakeeper’s original model, the M7000, the new Seakeeper 6 is a considerable 40 percent smaller, draws 25 percent less power, and costs roughly half as much as the original model. As marine stabilization has evolved and spread over the past decade, customers’ expectations have evolved as well.

USV Deployed for 22 Days in South China Sea

A Singapore based designer and manufacturer of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) said one of its vehicles was recently deployed for more than three weeks in the South China Sea. The 22-day continuous deployment marks the longest ever for Zycraft’s wholly developed Vigilant class 17-meter independent unmanned surface vessel (IUSV), which traveled a total distance of 1,900 nautical miles South China Sea. Command and control of the IUSV was done using satellite communications from Singapore at Zycraft’s command center.

Marine stabilization company Seakeeper Inc. has promoted Andrew Semprevivo to Chief Operating Officer, effective April 10. A Seakeeper employee since the commercialization of the company in 2008, Semprevivo assumed various sales roles, culminating in his appointment as Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2014. In his new role, Semprevivo will continue to lead the company’s sales and marketing efforts in addition to playing a leadership role in other departments of the organization.

Zycraft Completes Longest Range Spares Delivery at Sea

Zycraft announced it had recently completed its longest range and fastest delivery of spares to a vessel in the Indian Ocean with one of its Shomari Long Range Vessels (LRV-17). The Nimble Cheetah traveled a total distance of 980 nautical miles at 25 knots to deliver critical engineering spares to a AHTS vessel that was towing a major oil and gas cargo. The trip to the distressed vessel was achieved in just over 40 hours. This is the fifth time that the Shomari LRV-17 has been called out for long range delivery of spares. The previous record was achieved in 2015 and involved going 700 nautical miles into the Java Sea to transfer critical equipment and personnel to an oil rig that was under tow and heading to Australia.

Seakeeper Enters Asia-Pacific Market

Seakeeper continues to strengthen its worldwide sales and service support with its new facility in Raffles Marina in Singapore. The office will serve as a base for all company operations in Asia. "We're taking a global approach to our business model," said Phil Bourque, Seakeeper global account manager. The Singapore facility rivals those in the West. Customers in Asia now have access to the full level of superior service that they've come to expect from the company. "This is a significant opportunity for Seakeeper; we have ambitious growth targets in the region," said Andrew Semprevivo, Seakeeper VP of sales and marketing. Seakeeper recently launched its expanded line of five gyro models that provide stability to boats from 30–220'.

Shipments of gyros increased 46% over 2013 as more boat manufacturers added Seakeeper as standard and optional equipment on new builds. A sizable portion of its sales also came from refits. Additional sales personnel, third party partners and industry acceptance helped to increase this segment. The company expanded its markets in 2014 with its portfolio of five new models, scaled to fit a wider range of boats from 30'–220'. The updated units are more compact than earlier versions and cost less due to the company's investment in manufacturing efficiency.
