Purchase unites two leading manufacturers of public safety communications systems.

Setcom Corporation, the premiere manufacturer of intercom systems and headsets for public safety vehicles and high-noise industrial environments has acquired Piratecom, the foremost producer of communications systems for marine vessels.  This acquisition is a significant step for Setcom and accelerates its growth in the specialty vehicle communications niches which include fire apparatus, police motorcycles, airport rescue firefighting trucks, and command vehicles.  For more information about Setcom’s new marine products, visit: http://setcomcorp.com/boat.html. The combination of Setcom and Piratecom will create one of the primary manufacturers of public safety and industrial communications accessories.  Piratecom’s differentiated and disruptive marine product line adds a critical element to Setcom’s product offerings.

“We are excited about the opportunities that this purchase brings to Setcom.  The addition of Piratecom’s marine product lines greatly enhances Setcom’s existing family of ruggedized communications systems.  In particular, Piratecom’s modular wireless products bring unique features to Setcom’s existing Liberator line of wireless headsets.  Piratecom’s noise cancellation capabilities are superior and made for extreme high-noise environments in which our customers operate,” states Jim Roberts, Setcom’s President. “We are thrilled to be a part of the Setcom organization.  Together, the integrated Setcom and Piratecom teams plan to continue to innovate and bring industry-leading products to market.  The combined capabilities of both companies will allow us to accelerate our pace of product introduction and market growth,” says Romao Carrasco, Co-Founder of Piratecom. All of Piratecom’s operations will be consolidated into Setcom’s Austin manufacturing facility by the end of 2011.
