Hapag-Lloyd Appoints New CFO

Hapag-Lloyd AG appointed Mark Frese to the Executive Board effective November 25, 2019. On March 1, 2020, he will become the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), replacing Nicolás Burr.Mark Frese (55) was most recently employed as the Chief Financial Officer of Ceconomy AG, the former Metro AG. Before that, he held various management positions at Metro AG and Kaufhof Holding AG.“When Mark Frese joins us, we will be gaining a very accomplished and highly skilled expert with extensive experience and knowledge of the financial sector. The Supervisory Board is convinced that, in its new composition, the Executive Board will remain excellently positioned to lead Hapag-Lloyd to continued future success

Hapag-Lloyd Re-elects Behrendt as Chairman

German-based cargo container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd AG's shareholders approved the proposal of the Supervisory Board to re-elect Michael Behrendt to the Supervisory Board as a shareholder representative.After being re-elected to the Supervisory Board and following the AGM, Behrendt was also confirmed by his fellow Supervisory Board members as its Chairman. Michael Behrendt has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG since 2014.“The clearness of the election results is an incentive for me. I would particularly like to thank the shareholders for their faith, and I look forward to continuing to work on the Supervisory Board as well as to enjoying the constructive support of the Executive Board

Hapag-Lloyd Names Rothkopf COO

Hapag-Lloyd has announced that Maximilian Rothkopf  is to be its new chief operating officer (COO). He will take over as new COO of Hapag-Lloyd when Anthony J. Firmin retires in late June.Maximilian Rothkopf, who holds a master's degree as well as a doctorate in business administration, has been a Partner since 2014 at McKinsey & Company, where he has been a member of the global Travel, Transport and Logistics (TTL) leadership team. He started his career in 2005 at the management consulting firm, where he has particularly provided advice to larger liner shipping companies, airlines and numerous other globally operating logistics companies.In his new role as the COO of Hapag-Lloyd

Hapag-LLoyd Extends Contract of CEO Rolf Habben Jansen

The supervisory board of Hapag-Lloyd AG has unanimously approved to extend the contract of Chief Executive Officer Rolf Habben Jansen for a further five years until 31 March 2024. “With Rolf Habben Jansen at the head, Hapag-Lloyd has further improved its position as a leading global liner shipping company in a challenging market environment and as an active driver of industry consolidation. The extension of his contract ensures continuity in the corporate management,” said Michael Behrendt, chairman of the supervisory board of Hapag-Lloyd AG. Thorsten Haeser Steps Down as CCO of Hapag-Lloyd

Thorsten Haeser has quit as chief commercial officer of Hapag-Lloyd, which has reorganised its executive Board. CCO Thorsten Haeser is leaving the Company as at 31 March 2018 on the most amicable of terms. With great professionalism and personal dedication, he managed and realigned the Executive Board’s sales responsibilities. Following the merger with container liner shipping company United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), Haeser played a key part in the smooth integration of UASC’s business into Hapag-Lloyd AG. Haeser was also instrumental in advancing the digitalisation of the Company. Overall, he made a significant contribution to ensuring the future viability and competitiveness of Hapag-Lloyd.

Hapag-Lloyd's Newest Ship Named Guayaquil Express

Hapag-Lloyd held a naming ceremony in Hamburg for the Guayaquil Express, the fourth of five newbuildings in its 10,500 TEU class. The patron is Christine Kühne, wife of Klaus-Michael Kühne, majority shareholder and Honorary Chairman of Kühne + Nagel International AG. Among those attending the christening at the Container Terminal Altenwerder in the Port of Hamburg were Olaf Scholz, the Mayor of Hamburg, and Angela Titzrath, the CEO of Hamburg Hafen und Logistik AG. “This naming ceremony is a symbol of the close connection to our home port, which is simultaneously the home port of the Guayaquil Express,” said Michael Behrendt, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG. “For us, the Guayaquil Express is a ‘smart ship’,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd.

Anthony and Nicolás Remain on Hapag-Lloyd Board

Hapag-Lloyd AG has announced the continuity in the executive management - Anthony J. Firmin remains COO and Nicolás Burr remains CFO. The Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG extended the Executive Board contracts of Anthony J. Firmin (COO) and Nicolás Burr (CFO) by two years until 30 June 2019 and 29 February 2020 respectively. “In this important phase involving the upcoming closing and subsequent integration of UASC, we are counting on continuity in the executive management. I am therefore delighted that the existing Executive Board team will continue its successful work”, said Michael Behrendt, Supervisory Board Chairman of Hapag-Lloyd AG. Alongside Anthony Firmin and Nicolás Burr, the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG includes Rolf Habben Jansen (CEO) and Thorsten Haeser (CCO).

Hapag-Lloyd, UASC Signs Merger Agreement

Hapag-Lloyd AG (Hapag-Lloyd) and United Arab Shipping Company S.A.G. (UASC) have signed a Business Combination Agreement (BCA) to merge both companies, subject to the necessary regulatory and contractual approvals. Besides the Business Combination Agreement (BCA) between the two companies, the controlling shareholders, namely CSAV Germany Container Holding GmbH, HGV Hamburger Gesellschaft für Vermögens- und Beteiligungsmanagement mbH and Kühne Maritime GmbH on the side of Hapag-Lloyd, and Qatar Holding LLC on behalf of the State of Qatar and The Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the side of UASC, have assumed certain commitments with regard to the merger and the future equity funding of the company in a separate agreement

Hapag-Lloyd, UASC Merger

Hapag-Lloyd and UASC have signed a Business Combination Agreement. The Combined company will rank among the world´s five largest liner shipping companies and will operate one of the most modern fleets in the industry / Company will operate 237 vessels with total transport capacity of around 1,6 million TEU / Qatar Holding LLC and The Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to become new key shareholders of Hapag-Lloyd. Hapag-Lloyd AG (Hapag-Lloyd) and United Arab Shipping Company S.A.G. (UASC) have signed a Business Combination Agreement (BCA) to merge both companies, subject to the necessary regulatory and contractual approvals.

Hapag-Lloyd CFO Ganz Steps Down

Peter Ganz will step down from his position as company CFO effective April 1, 2015, also leaving the company on the same day, as announced during today’s meeting of Hapag-Lloyd’s Supervisory Board. The Supervisory Board has given its approval. The change on the Executive Board comes following an agreement between shareholders stipulating that CSAV, as the new largest shareholder in Hapag-Lloyd, has the right to nominate an individual of its choice to assume the position of CFO.

Habben Jansen Takes over as Hapag-Lloyd CEO

Hapag-Lloyd announced changes in its Executive Board resulting from departure of Michael Behrendt and Ulrich Kranich; Anthony J. Rolf Habben Jansen, who has been a member of the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board since April 1, has assumed the position of CEO effective July 1. He succeeds Michael Behrendt, who left the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board as scheduled on June 30, as did COO Ulrich Kranich. The new COO is Anthony J. Firmin who joined the Executive Board today after 19 years at the company. Peter Ganz continues as CFO, a position he has held since April 2009.

Hapag-Lloyd's Loss Widens

Company says freight rates remain under pressure; blames tough competition, weak U.S. dollar. Pins hopes on G6 alliance, container merger with CSAV. German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd's first-quarter loss widened as its revenue declined, hit by tough competition which depressed freight rates and a weak dollar. Shipping groups have been struggling through the worst slump on record, as they grapple with low freight rates caused by overcapacity and a weak global economy. Hapag-Lloyd's first-quarter operating loss increased to 63.2 million euros ($86.9 million) from 53.2 million euros in the same period a year ago, even though transport volumes rose 5.5 percent to 1.4 million twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEU).

Hapag-Lloyd, CSAV Merger Finalized

Hapag-Lloyd AG and Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV) today signed a binding contract on merging CSAV’s entire container business with Hapag-Lloyd, subject to the necessary approvals. Following the integration, the new Hapag-Lloyd will rank among the four largest liner shipping companies in the world, with some 200 vessels with total transport capacity of around one million TEU, an annual transport volume of 7.5 million TEU and a combined turnover of 9 billion Euro. The company’s head office will remain in Hamburg.

Hapag-Lloyd Boosts Results, Volume in 2013

Hapag-Lloyd improved its result and transport volume in the previous financial year despite persistently tough competition. EBITDA increased year-on-year by €54.6 million to €389.1 million. The operating result also saw a significant improvement, climbing by €41 million to €67.2 million, meaning that Hapag-Lloyd performed well in comparison to its competitors. Thanks to its global liner network with almost 100 services, Hapag-Lloyd was able to take full advantage of growth opportunities in a difficult market. Security at Sea on Agenda at Upcoming SMM Hamburg

At the forthcoming SMM maritime trade fair in Hamburg in September 2014 experts will present new security concepts for sea routes. Security at sea is improving: In recent months, pirate attacks on commercial ships have been repelled successfully with increasing frequency. One of the reasons is the EU-led Operation Atalanta providing military protection in the Gulf of Aden. Since 1, February 2009 commercial ships have been able to use a Transit Corridor established there. International naval units escort containerships or gas tankers through this corridor.

Hans Jakob Kruse has Died

Hapag-Lloyd mourns the loss of former Executive Board chairman Hans Jakob Kruse, who led the company from 1973 until 1993. On February 4, Hans Jakob Kruse died in Hamburg at the age of 84. He was the chairman of the Hapag-Lloyd Executive Board for two decades from 1973 until 1993. “Hapag-Lloyd is mourning the loss of a visionary and beloved chairman, whose substantial contribution shaped our company as well as the global shipping industry,” said Michael Behrendt, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hapag-Lloyd. Following an apprenticeship as a shipping agent, Hans Jakob Kruse began his career in 1964 as a representative of Hapag and Norddeutscher Lloyd in Australia. In 1967 he returned to Germany as the head of Canada and Australia services.

Hapag-Lloyd Reports Another Quarter of Net Profits

Following on from the second quarter, Hapag-Lloyd once again generated a profit in the third quarter of the current financial year, primarily as a result of substantial cost reductions. Between July and September 2013, the group recorded a profit of €16.6 million, despite freight rates that continued to deteriorate. The average freight rate in the third quarter was $1,476/TEU, which was well below the previous year’s figure of $1,647/TEU. In contrast, the transport volume increased by 8.6%, from 1.28 to 1.39 million TEU.

Hapag-Lloyd Ensures Continuity within Executive Management

At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG has set the course at an early stage for maintaining continuity in the Executive Board of Germany’s largest liner shipping company. Rolf Habben-Jansen will succeed Chief Executive Officer Michael Behrendt, who is set to leave in the middle of next year. Habben-Jansen has been appointed to the Executive Board of the company with effect from April 1, 2014 and will assume the position of Chairman of the Executive Board on July 1, 2014. Habben-Jansen is a successful and experienced manager in the logistics sector. Having held positions at the Royal Nedlloyd Group and at DHL, he became CEO of the freight forwarding group Damco NV in The Hague in 2009.

Jesper Praestensgaard, responsible for Global Markets & Global Accounts is to leave the company in June 2013. Hapag-Lloyd announce that the executive board member  will be leaving the Company at his own request in June in order to take on new challenges. “Hapag-Lloyd would like to thank Jesper Praestensgaard for his dedication during this time and would like to wish him all the best for the future, both privately and professionally,” says Dr Jürgen Weber, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG.

Hapag-Lloyd Cuts Losses in Q1 2013

The company reports its earlier loss significantly reduced in first quarter 2013 financial results. The company reports that Although its operating environment has remained challenging, Hapag-Lloyd finished the first quarter of this year in a much better position than last year. As expected, the Company posted a loss in what is traditionally the weakest quarter of the year for the liner shipping sector. However, it halved its loss before interest and taxes compared with Q1 2012. Revenue came to EUR 1.65 billion in the first three months of 2013 - an increase of 3.1% on the same period of the previous year. This was mainly attributable to a rise in the average freight rate, which was 4.2% up on the previous year at USD 1,546/TEU. “Liner shipping started 2013 on a higher level than in 2012.

Hapag-Lloyd Reports Second Quarter Profits

Hapag-Lloyd returned to profitability in the second quarter of the current financial year, reporting a Group profit of €20.9 million for the months April to June 2013 (Q2 2012: -€7.3 million). The operating result of €66.7 million was more than twice as high as last year’s figure of €30.8 million. EBITDA also improved significantly by 45% to €147.8 million. Although intense competition led to unsatisfactory rate levels, substantial cost cuts and a slight drop in the bunker consumption price were the main factors behind the positive net result. Bunker costs in the second quarter averaged $622/tonne, which was below last year’s figure ($694/tonne). However, the bunker price is currently still more than three times the level seen at the start of 2009, when it was approximately $200/tonne.
