More Than Two Dozen Missing after Ship Snaps in Two, Sinks Off Hong Kong

China Moves Another 2 Million Barrels of Iranian Oil into Reserve Tanks

China is set to receive close to two million barrels of Iranian oil this week and pump into a reserve base in south China, according to tanker tracker specialist Vortexa Analytics.Diona, a very large crude carrier owned by National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), is expected to discharge the oil into an oil terminal in Zhanjiang of Guangdong province, said Emma Li, Vortexa's China analyst.This would be the third Iranian oil cargo destined for government stockpile following two similar-sized shipments in December and January.This shipment is likely to be reported by Chinese customs which is due

Shipbuilding Contract Signed

Jianglong Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. signed a shipbuilding contract worth $27.8 milliion with H Ferry Co. Ltd. No additional details on the contract were readily available.Jianglong was established in 2003, and had two construction bases covering an area of about 210,000 sq. m. in Zhongshan City and Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, with about 800 professional marine technicians. Jianglong's product range includes patrol boats, passenger ferries, sightseeing boat and multi-function vessels made of aluminum, steel, FRP or composite material. CNOOC to Fuel 50 New Gas-powered River Vessels

Tanjung Bruas Receives Container Ships

Malaysia's Tanjung Bruas Port (TBP), a member of MMC Group, announced that it now offers container ships services at its Tanjung Bruas Port terminal.TBP recently welcomed the MV West Scent, the first Container vessel to ever call its terminal at Tanjung Bruas Port. Seven Dead as Cargo Ship Sinks in China

Seven people have died after a cargo ship sank in the Beijiang River, in south China's Guangdong Province, Chinese official media said quoting local authorities.The report said that the ship, Yueyingde Cargo 8030, capsized and sank at 11:30 p.m. on Monday. All the seven bodies had been recovered by 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.The maritime rescue center of the city of Qingyuan initiated an emergency response and dispatched search vessels to the site. The rescue is still on-going, it said.A team will be sent to salvage the wreck of the ship and further investigation will follow.

Aulong Secures Ferry Build Contract

A second high speed passenger ferry contract has been awarded to Aulong Shipbuilding, a joint venture company formed by Austal Limited and Guandong Jianglong Shipbuilding of Zhuhai, China. Aulong has been awarded a A$5.6 million (US$4.4 million) contract to design and build a 35-meter high speed catamaran for Chinese mainland ferry operator, Blue Sea Jet. Announcing the contract in Australia, Austal Chief Executive Officer David Singleton said the company’s strong reputation has again secured export business for Austal’s Australian based design team. “Our Aulong joint venture is a great example of how effective technology transfer is developing our export business, with Austal’s extensive commercial portfolio attracting existing and new customers in mainland China,” Singleton said.

Typhoon Batters Hong Kong, China

Destructive winds, waves batter Hong Kong, south China. Typhoon Hato, a maximum category 10 storm, slammed into Hong Kong on Wednesday lashing the Asian financial hub with wind and rain that uprooted trees and forced most businesses to close, while in some places big waves flooded seaside streets. There were reports of 34 people injured in Hong Kong while in the city of Macau, across the Pearl River estuary, three people were killed, authorities there said. In Hong Kong, more than 450 flights were cancelled, financial markets suspended and schools closed as Hato bore down, the first category 10 storm to hit the city since 2012. "I've never seen one like this," Garrett Quigley, a longtime resident of Lantau island to the west of the city, said of the storm.

China's 'Smart' Ship Debuts in Shanghai

China's first "smart" ship embedded with a domestically-developed intelligent navigation system made its debut in Shanghai, according to official media Xinhua. China Daily also reported that the world's first smart ship, developed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC),  has started its first trial voyage in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province. Christened as 'Great Intelligence' (Great Smart) 179-meter-long ship  is 32-meters-wide and 15-meters-high, with a maximum loading capacity of 38,800 tonnes.
