Spanish renewable energy company Iberdrola said this week it was making progress in the construction of Vineyard Wind I, the largest commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the United States, with the receipt of the first shipment of components for the 62 wind turbines that will make up the farm at the port of New Bedford. Port Canaveral has taken the delivery of mobile harbor crane - 270-foot-tall Liebherr LHM 600 - the largest of its kind in the US.The huge LHM 600 crane arrived at the port on January 18, 2018 aboard the “Happy Dover”, a heavy load carrier and  will be operational in the second quarter of 2019. It joins two 270-foot-tall ship-to-shore cranes in service at the port since 2014.The Canaveral Port Authority purchased the mobile harbor crane to accommodate the Port’s growing diverse cargo throughput, adding handling flexibility and extended lift capability, including heavy cargo and space components for the Port’s cargo operations.“Port Canaveral has added a new dimension to our harbor and cargo management capability,” Port CEO Capt.

Seajacks Scylla, touted as the world's largest and most advanced wind farm installation and offshore construction vessel, has been delivered by the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in Geoje, Republic of Korea. Based on the Gusto MSC NG14000X design, the ABS-classed Seajacks Scylla, has more than 8,000 metric tons of available variable deck load. Equipped with a 1,540-metric-ton leg-encircling crane and a usable deck space in excess of 5,000 square meters the unit is outfitted with 105-meter legs with the ability to install components in water depths to 65 meters.

Hamad Port welcomed its second commercial  carrying the second shipment of cranes which includes four Ship to Shore (STS) Cranes and six Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) Cranes, says a report in the Gulf Times. This, along with other key developments, is expected to help pave the way for the launch of “early operations” for certain types of vessels before the end of the current year, the statement noted. NYK and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. are to begin experiments on an air-lubrication system to reduce CO2 emissions during marine transport. Jointly developed by the two companies, the system effectively reduces the frictional resistance between a vessel's bottom and the seawater by means of bubbles generated by supplying air to the vessel's bottom. The installation of the system using an air-blower is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 10 percent. Unknown Italian buyers recently purchased three 1979 Japanese-built tankers for a total of $5.9 million. The vessels acquired by the Italians were the Sarpindo Palapa (16,370-dwt), the Sarpindo Primuda (16,319-dwt) and the Sarpindo Pribumi (16,291-dwt). Another tanker sold was the 1986 German-built Leng (10,628-dwt) purchased by unidentified Danish buyers for $11.9 million. Unknown buyers purchased four Japanese-constructed bulk carriers for a total of $32 million. The vessels were the Ma Guan Hai (1984, 41,762-dwt), the Ma Long Hai (1984, 41,634-dwt), the Ma Quan Hai (1985, 41,634-dwt) and the Ma Shan Hai (1985, 41,634-dwt).
