Wärtsilä Engines, Thrusters for OHT's Offshore Wind Jack-up Rig

Finland-based maritime and offshore engine and equipment maker Wärtsilä has won orders to equip Norwegian firm OHT’s next-generation wind offshore turbine installation vessel being built in China.Wärtsilä will supply an integrated propulsion and dynamic positioning thruster solution, including the engines, a Wärtsilä NOx reducer emission abatement system, as well as steerable and tunnel thrusters to deliver optimum performance for vessel dynamic positioning in this new wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV).

Offshore Wind Installation Giant in the Making: Subsea 7 to Merge Renewables Business with OHT

Subsea energy services firm Subsea 7 said Thursday it had agreed to merge its renewables business with OHT, and Oslo-listed heavy lift and transportation vessel owner which is building a fleet of offshore wind installation vessels, too.The combined company will be renamed Seaway 7 ASA and will initially retain OHT’s listing on Oslo’s Euronext Growth market, with a view to a future listing on the main board of Oslo Børs. Subsea 7 will own 72% and OHT’s shareholders 28% of Seaway 7 ASA.

VIDEO: More Than 100 New Offshore Wind Vessels Needed by 2030 to Meet Demand

Over 100 new offshore wind turbine and foundation installation and maintenance vessels will be required for offshore projects planned over the next decade, as the number of proposed projects grows, but also as the turbines and foundations get larger, meaning the currently available fleet won't be able to install them. What is more, most of the current fleet could become obsolete by 2025. This is according to a new study by World Energy Reports. "We see that demand [for the offshore wind vessels by 2030] will not be supplied by the existing fleet.

OHT Gets $135M Loan for 'Alfa Lift'

Oslo-listed offshore heavy transport and wind installation company OHT has received and accepted a firm offer for a USD 135 million Senior Secured Green ECA Credit Facility.The loan was accepted by OHT's ship owing company OHT Alfa Lift AS, which is building the offshore wind foundation installation vessel Alfa Lift in China. OHT ordered the Alfa Lift on speculation in 2018, and has since secured contracts to install foundations at the world's largest wind farm - the Dogger Bank in the UK.Sharing further details on the loan…

OHT Heavy Lifter Keel Laying

Keel laying has been completed for Norway-based Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT)'s new crane vessel Alfa Lift currently under construction at China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) yard in Jiangsu."The new heavy installation crane vessel has reached its second significant build milestone with the laying of the Keel, weeks ahead of schedule," said a press release from the  heavy transport and installation contractor.For the first time the fabricated blocks have come together for assembly in the dry dock and the vessel will start to take shape. This is the next significant step in bringing Alfa Lift to the market, following the Steel Cutting Ceremony that took place on March 1st of this year.The milestone was marked with a Keel Laying Ceremony on the 25th September…

Aker Kvaerner Wins Blind Faith Contract

Chevron with partner Kerr-McGee has awarded Aker Kvaerner a contract for marine operations for installation of the Blind Faith platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The contract value is estimated to approximately $35 million. The new contract will be executed by the Aker Kvaerner company Aker Marine Contractors, and includes installation of a mooring system, topside transport, transportation and installation of the Blind Faith semisubmersible platform as well as hook up of the risers of the Aker Kvaerner company. President of Aker Marine Contractors, Torgeir Ramstad comments, "This contract award confirms the competitiveness of Aker Marine Contractors in the deepwater installation market. Aker Kvaerner has already been awarded the contract for delivery of the hull and mooring system.

Aker Kvaerner Charters Offshore Construction Vessels

Aker Marine Contractors, part of the Aker Kvaerner group, has entered into an agreement with Taubåtkompaniet AS securing full marketing and operational control over the specialized offshore construction vessels "Boa Deep C" and "Boa Deep C II". The agreement runs for five years with options for extensions up to four more years, and is expected to significantly enhance the company's position in the deep water subsea and floating production markets. The new agreement builds on the positive results achieved following Aker Marine Contractor's introduction of "Boa Deep C" in May 2004 on contracts for Statoil, Woodside and Modec. The vessel has since its introduction seen almost full utilization, and is currently operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
