Tore Sjursen will assume the position as executive vice president for operational improvement and risk management at Aker Solutions on April 1. Knut Sandvik will at the same time replace Sjursen as head of the company's maintenance, modifications and operations business. Sjursen will be based in Oslo and be responsible for the corporate center functions Enterprise Risk Management, Tendering and Corporate Risk Committee, Health, Safety and Environment, Quality and Performance and Operational Audit. He will also be responsible for developing and coordinating company-wide improvement agendas, monitoring business area improvement initiatives and reporting on progress to the board of directors.
Aker Solutions Wins Mariner Development Deal
Aker Solutions secured a contract from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to provide engineering, construction and commissioning services for the hook-up phase of the Mariner oilfield development in the UK North Sea. The agreement is worth more than GBP 120 million. It comes in addition to a five-year maintenance and modifications services contract awarded in June by Statoil for the Mariner field, which is set to start production in 2017. "We are very pleased to be expanding our already significant role in developing the Mariner field and to be working with Daewoo and Statoil," said Tore Sjursen, head of Aker Solutions' maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) business.
Norway Offshore MMO Slowdown: Aker Helps Redundant Workers
Aker Solutions says it is transferring employees to a new subsea engineering hub in Stavanger and using the Aker Advantage recruitment agency to find work for more than 200 employees impacted by the slowdown in Norway's offshore maintenance and modifications market. The company is acting proactively to ease overcapacity in its Norwegian MMO business, which is being affected by lower demand as oil companies reduce spending plans. About 100 MMO engineers will be moved to a subsea hub that's being established in Stavanger to support and ensure flawless execution of Aker Solutions' significant order backlog. Aker Solutions is also offering about 130 employees a transfer to Aker Advantage, which will endeavour to find jobs inside or outside the group.
Aker Solutions Acquires I.D.E.A.S
Aker Solutions acquired UK specialist engineering company International Design Engineering And Services Ltd (I.D.E.A.S) to boost its asset integrity management services. Glasgow, Scotland-based I.D.E.A.S. has developed software and technology that is designed to improve the quality and accuracy of integrity and life time analysis for oil and gas assets. The analysis can be applied in all phases of the development of an installation, from design through construction, operation and life extension. "This technology strengthens our offering of asset integrity management services," said Tore Sjursen, head of Aker Solutions' maintenance and modifications business. "It can be used to predict the lifetime of an installation in a more effective manner.
Aker Wins Big EPCI Contract Offshore Canada
Aker Solutions awarded contract for offshore engineering services to support Husky Energy at White Rose field. The scope of work includes studies, modifications (EPCI) and campaign maintenance services. The duration is five years with an option to extend the contract for as many as 10 one-year periods. The estimated contract value is NOK 900 million for the five-year period. "We are delighted that Husky has chosen us as their preferred partner for offshore engineering services at the White Rose field," says Tore Sjursen, head of maintenance, modifications and operations at Aker Solutions. Aker to Effect Offshore EPCIC Tie-in
The contract involves further modification work on Sleipner A under the Sleipner Modification Portfolio Agreement. In detail, this contract is for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) to tie the gas production from the Dagny platform into Sleipner A. The Sleipner Modification Portfolio Agreement was awarded to Aker Solutions in August 2010 and the company is currently working on the first call-off project named Gudrun tie-in to Sleipner. The Sleipner area is the second largest gas producer in the North Sea, after the Troll field.

Aker Solutions Increases Fabrication Capacity
Aker Solutions has acquired a fabrication facility in Sandnessjøen, Norway, to increase its fabrication capacity in the Norwegian Sea and further north. The purchase is part of Aker Solutions' northern Norway strategy. The facility, which is located at Helgelands Industrial Park in Sandnessjøen, Norway (Helgelands Næringspark), is being acquired from Ruukki Construction Norge AS. Historically, the core competence at the facility has been within fabrication of steel structures, including product deliveries to the oil industry. The transaction value is undisclosed. Aker Solutions named as management contractor for Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd's (BSP) offshore construction and maintenance services. The contract in Brunei, East Asia, is worth over NOK 2.3 billion, and is for a duration of five years with an option of two additional years. The work for BSP will commence immediately and the first offshore campaign managed by Aker Solutions in Brunei is scheduled for 2013. As the management contractor Aker Solutions will be responsible for managing the construction and maintenance work for BSP's offshore assets, and transferring competence to enable local businesses to gradually assume responsibility for the work. Aker Wins ExxonMobil Norwegian Shelf Contract
The frame agreement covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation for ExxonMobil's operated assets on the Norwegian continental shelf. The fixed contract duration is five years from 2012 to 2017, with options for two additional five year periods. The frame agreement will be managed from Stavanger. The agreement will cover Balder, Jotun A, Jotun B and Ringhorne assets operated by ExxonMobil on the Norwegian continental shelf. Contract parties are Aker Solutions' subsidiary Aker Solutions MMO AS and ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Norway AS. Over the past 20 years, Sandnessjøen Engineering has established a strong and experienced team, which supplies engineering and project management services to the oil and gas and construction industries in the area. Aker Solutions Wins Statoil Contract Extension
Statoil has exercised an option of a three year extension of the minor modifications frame agreement contract with Aker Solutions at the Mongstad refinery, located on Norway's west coast. Aker Solutions estimates the contract value to be approximately NOK 360 million. The original frame agreement at the Mongstad refinery commenced in January 2006 and lasts until the end of 2011. Scope of work includes studies and execution of modifications to increase operational stability, capacity and longevity. BP Extends Contract With Aker Solutions
BP has decided to extend the maintenance and modification contract with Aker Solutions, exercising a one year option in the existing agreement for the Ula, Valhall, Hod and Tambar fields.
