New High-speed Vessel Joins the San Francisco Bay Ferry Fleet

WETA's New Ferry Enters Service in San Francisco

A new high-speed passenger vessel entered service for the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) on Monday.The newbuild, Dorado, is the first in a series of four new ferries being built for WETA by Mavrik Marine in La Conner, Wash. Construction on the second vessel in the Dorado class, Delphinus, is underway. Vessel construction was funded through the Federal Transit Administration and the State of California’s Proposition 1B in collaboration with the California Office of Emergency Services.

Crowley Orders ATB at Bollinger

Crowley Fuels LLC has signed a contract with Bollinger Shipyards for the construction of a new 100,000-barrel-capacity articulated tug-barge (ATB) to transport multiple clean petroleum products in the Alaska market. The Alaska-class vessel will be built at Bollinger Marine Fabricators Shipyard, in Amelia, La., with an expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2019. Since it started publishing in 1939, Maritime Reporter & Engineering News has recognized excellence in ship construction. Crowley Maritime Corp. took delivery of Texas, the second of four new Jones Act product tankers from Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSINC). The 50,000 dwt, 330,000-barrel Texas joins sister ship Ohio, which was received by Crowley in October, as the first ever tankers to receive the ABS LNG-Ready Level 1 approval, meaning Crowley has the option to convert the tanker to liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion in the future.

Crowley Maritime Corporation christened the third of four new LNG-ready Jones Act product tankers at a May 5 ceremony at the Julia Street Cruise Terminal in New Orleans. The 600-foot-long, 50,000-dead-weight-ton (dwt), 330,000-barrel-capacity MT Louisiana is capable of carrying crude oil or refined petroleum products, as well as other chemical products for U.S. Coastwise trade. Crowley Maritime Corp. has taken delivery of Louisiana, the third of four new, Jones Act product tankers being built for the company by Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI), the sole operating subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA. The delivery marks another highpoint for Crowley’s petroleum services group as its tankers are at the forefront of the industry for their potential future conversion to LNG propulsion. Louisiana, which is 50,000 dead-weight-tons (dwt) and capable of carrying 330,000-barrels of product, is scheduled to be christened in New Orleans on May 5.

Crowley Maritime Corp. today christened the first of four new Jones Act product tankers at the Tampa Cruise Terminal. The 50,000 dead-weight-tons (dwt), 330,000-barrel-capacity ship Ohio is the first tanker ever to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s (ABS) LNG-Ready Level 1 approval, meaning Crowley has the option to convert the tanker to liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion in the future. More than 100 guests watched as Pamela Beall, president of MPLX, a Marathon Petroleum Corporation subsidiary, broke a ceremonial bottle of champagne across the hull to christen the vessel.

Crowley Acquires Jones Act Tankers

Crowley Maritime Corp. took delivery of Ohio, the first of four new, Jones Act, product tankers this week from Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. The first of four Crowley Maritime Corp. product tankers was celebrated today in a keel laying ceremony held at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc. (APSI), the wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA. The 330,000-barrel, Jones Act tankers are being built through a joint venture between Crowley and Aker. Keeping with the long-held shipbuilding tradition, several coins were placed by representatives from Crowley, APSI and others on one of the keel blocks before the unit was lowered into place in the dry dock. The coins are a ceremonial sign of good fortune and safe travels.

Jensen Get Tankship Construction Management Contracts

Jensen Maritime Consultants , Crowley Maritime's Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, has been awarded a new construction management contract for four new 330,000-barrel, Jones Act product tankers, being built by Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Inc. With construction scheduled to begin in January, Jensen is already establishing on-site offices and personnel at the Philadelphia shipyard to ensure strong working relationships with Aker staff and a seamless construction and delivery program. Delivery of the new veteran class tankers is expected in 2015 and 2016.

Seattle Seawall Construction Contract for Jacobs

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has been awarded a contract from the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) for Construction Management Services on the Elliott Bay Seawall Project (EBSP) in Seattle, Wash. Officials estimate the construction value to be $300 million for Phase 1 of the project. Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is managing the construction of approximately 3,700 feet of new seawall infrastructure in an urban waterfront area that supports public recreation, tourism and commerce. Engineering Services Contract Established Between BP and Aker Kvaerner

Aker Kvaerner Netherlands B.V., part of the Aker Kvaerner Group, has received a letter of intent, based on Contract Terms currently being finalised, to perform Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management Services (EPCm) for major BP Petrochemical and Refining sites in Germany. Under this contract Aker Kvaerner will perform Engineering, Procurement services and Construction Management services for small and medium size projects at the BP sites in Gelsenkirchen, Köln, and Marl with an option for Lingen also to participate. The duration for this agreement is five years with the possibility of further extension in terms of locations and duration. "This is an important and strategic frame agreement for Aker Kvaerner," says Jarle Tautra, executive vice president in Aker Kvaerner.

Oil and gas engineering company Fabricom Offshore Services announced its relocation from Aberdeen's Riverside House to larger office facilities at Berry Street in the city center. The move, which comes less than a year after the company established a base in Aberdeen, is the result of new business and increases the company’s presence and capability in Aberdeen. Art Anderson Awarded Port of Portland Contract

Art Anderson Associates, a Bremerton-based multidisciplinary engineering services firm, was recently awarded a contract for On-Call Naval Architect Design Services with the Navigation Division of the Port of Portland. The Navigation Division owns and operates a fleet of vessels and barges, including the Dredge Oregon, and has retained the firm to provide naval architecture and marine engineering services in support of fleet maintenance and operations. While the firm has maintained a presence in the Portland area for many years, providing facilities construction management services on behalf of the U.S. General Services Administration, it is only recently that it has focused on doing more naval architecture and marine work in the region.

Aker Kvaerner Secures Contract from BP

AK Engineering Services, part of the Aker Kvaerner group, has secured a multi-million pound contract to service two major onshore facilities for BP in the UK. The work will be performed by personnel from the firm's Stockton facility and from sister organisations in Aberdeen and Solent over the next three years. The scope of work covers the provision of engineering, modifications and maintenance services at BP's Wytch Farm production and transport facility in Dorset, and at the BP CATS (Central Area Transmission System) gas terminal on Teesside, North East England. The contract includes three further two-year extension options. Around 150 personnel from the three locations will be employed on the project.
