BAE Systems Wins $5 Billion Naval Shipbuilding Contract

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard to Russian Ownership

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard is now 100 percent Russian-owned as United Shipbuilding Corporation bought the remaining half of the company’s shares from STX Finland Oy. Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Inc. was founded in December 2010 as United Shipbuilding Corporation bought the first 50 percent of the shipyard shares from STX Finland, a subsidiary of the Korean-owned STX Europe. The joint venture was established to respond to the need of growing market of Arctic shipbuilding and to unite the Finnish and Russian maritime clusters.

MacGregor Appoints 2 New VPs

MacGregor is presently building its new Global Lifecycle Support organisation to develop and enhance customer service both in the merchant shipping and offshore markets. The installed base of MacGregor's product portfolio of strong MacGregor, Hatlapa, Porsgrunn, Pusnes and Triplex brands is extensive in both markets and MacGregor is strongly focusing on serving its customers well throughout the lifetime of the installations. MacGregor announces appointments of two new Vice Presidents to lead its front line operations and service competence centres globally. Nick White is appointed as Vice President, Global Field Services which is an elemental part of the new Global Lifecycle Support in MacGregor group to drive the development of frontline service operations.

Bludworth Marine Listed on INC. Fastest Growing Company List

Bludworth Marine LLC has been listed # 716 on the 2008 INC 5000 fastest growing private company list (2004-2007). Marine was also # 9 in the Transportation Sector and # 13 in the et. marine repair shipyard with multiple locations. A new deep water shipyard in will begin operation of a new 3,000 ton dry dock in early 2009. The Bludworth Orange shipyard is presently building a new stainless steel cargo tank inland acid barge for delivery in early 2009. Bludworth operates two 800 ton dry docks, a 315' x 100' graving dock, and a topside repair location at Pier 38 in . A new inland fabrication and repair location is presently under construction in adjacent to the Houston Ship Channel.

Feature: Guiding the Gas

Many workboats in the marine industry are called upon in supply or assist roles. The entire offshore vessel industry is based on a supply function to oil and gas drilling operations or the resupply of production platforms. The tugboat industry is most often characterized as small vessels assisting very large ships in docking, undocking and other harbor movements. The growth of these vessel companies and their operations depends on the economic vitality of the larger industry they serve. Right now the hottest new market being served by tugs is in the assistance of very large Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) tankers to dock and undock. As is the case in other marine support operations, the growth of tugs to assist LNG tankers depends on the basic health of LNG transport.

Aker Yards to Guild Ferry for Tallink

Aker Yards and the Estonian Tallink Group have signed a contract for the building of a fast passenger ferry for delivery in spring 2007, worth around 110 million euro. The contract includes an option for another similar vessel. The new ferry to be delivered from the yard in Helsinki is of a new and innovative design. She will start regular traffic between Helsinki and Tallinn and will be capable to cross the sea between the two cities in 1 hour and 50 minutes. The ice class of the ferry will allow year-around operation. Besides 1,900 passengers, the 185 m long and 27.7 m wide vessel is designed to carry private cars and freight units by having more than two kilometres of vehicle deck space. Aker Yards is the leading ferry builder in the world.
