TotalEnergies Awards New Contracts to Siem PSV Pair in Brazil

Norwegian shipowner Siem Offshore has secured new contracts with TotalEnergies for two of its platform supply vessels (PSV) for work offshore Brazil.The contracts are for Siem Giant and Siem Atlas PSVs.The new duration for Siem Giant is three years firm with options up to four more years.For Siem Atlas, the new duration is nine months firm with options until the end of the second quarter in 2027.Both vessels will start the contracts in June 2024 in direct continuation of present contracts…

TotalEnergies Extends Siem PSV Pair in Brazil

Norwegian shipowner Siem Offshore said it has secured contract extensions for two of its platform supply vessels (PSV) working for TotalEnergies offshore Brazil.Total E&P do Brazil has declared the first of two options for the PSVs Siem Atlas and Siem Giant, and both vessels are now firm until June 2023.Siem Atlas and Siem Giant are 4,700 dwt, 87.9-meter-long STX PSV 4700 vessels built in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

The Ship that Found Antarctica’s Endurance Wreck is Vital for Climate Science

It was 1914 when the English explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton set sail on his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition aboard a ship called Endurance. It was an ill-fated journey: the ship got trapped in the ice and eventually crushed by pack ice in 1915. It sank to the bottom of Antarctica’s Weddell Sea. (Shackleton and his entire crew survived the ordeal by escaping in smaller boats.)It was difficult to believe that the Endurance might ever be found. The icy Weddell Sea is inhospitable and the wreck lay in more than 3000 metres of water.

Norwegian based Siem Offshore said it has entered into a contract with an undisclosed subsea construction company for an offshore project in the Gulf of Mexico.The project will utilize the Bahamas-flagged offshore support and construction vessel (OSCV) Siem Spearfish for a scope of work consisting of subsea and remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) duties. MAN L23/30H Mk3 Engine Passes Remote Type Approval Test

MAN Energy Solutions said it recently conducted a successful Type Approval Test (TAT) for new engine L23/30H Mk3 executed on-site in Korea by STX and MAN Energy Solutions staff, with the classification team joining proceedings remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions. MSC Cruises Orders 2 LNG-Powered Cruise Ships

Geneva-based global cruise line MSC Cruises has signed a contract with the French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique to build the third and fourth liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered MSC World Class ships.The two parties announced that a firm contract has been signed for the construction of two additional MSC World Class ships worth over 2 billion euros scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2027.In 2017, Chantiers de l’Atlantique (previously STX France) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MSC Cruises for the construction of two cruise ships. Standard Drilling Sells PSV

Cyprus-based company active in the oil and gas industry S.D Standard Drilling signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to sell one  large Norwegian built Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), Standard Supporter for USD 15 million.The transaction was completed yesterday (10 December 2019). S.D Standard Drilling Plc. has, through its subsidiary, Standard Supporter AS, received the transaction amount in full. Following the sale, the Company will control, directly and indirectly, a fleet  of 13 PSVs ; four large PSVs 100% owned and nine medium-sized PSVs with approximately 26% ownership interest, including one vessel on a bare boat contract.The company sold one UT 776 CD PSV  vessel, Standard Supporter, for USD 15 million last month.

Fincantieri's French Shipyard Bid Faces Lengthy EU Antitrust Probe

Europe's largest shipyard Fincantieri faces a full-scale EU antitrust investigation into its bid for France's Chantiers de l'Atlantique on concerns the deal would reduce competition, three people familiar with the matter said.The European Commission's preliminary review of the deal ends on Wednesday. It will follow up with an in-depth investigation, the sources said. This lasts 90 working days but could stretch to as long as five months.The EU competition enforcer is worried the number of European players will be cut to two from three as a result of the deal, the sources said. The other competitor is a German shipyard.Fincantieri has argued Asian shipyards could pose strong competition in the next decade to try to address the Commission's worries, the people said.

OOS Walcheren Starts its Engines

Netherlands-based OOS International has revved up the engines on its newbuild semi-submersible heavy lift crane accommodation vessel OOS Walcheren for the first time.The OOS Walcheren is currently under construction at China Merchants Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Shipyard, said a press note from the Dutch offshore company .The OOS Walcheren is the sister vessel of the OOS Serooskerke, which is presently undergoing the final stages of commissioning before heading out for sea trials. Her expected delivery is within Q1 2020.The construction of OOS Walcheren commenced on the 24th May 2018 and it has taken 16 ½ months to start up her engines, which has bettered the OOS Serooskerke record by 10 days and less man-hours.
