Maritime Training: Implementing CI in Familiarization Training

Continuous Improvement (CI) is the process of continually analyzing the performance of some aspect of operations, and then applying changes intended to improve that performance. It is a critical component in maintaining the health of any operation and can be applied to almost any activity. This is the third and final installment in a series of articles intended to introduce CI, and to give some practical tips for using CI in any maritime organization to improve training effectiveness and efficiency.

2H Offshore Names Jewell and Ha Directors, London Office

2H Offshore Inc., an Acteon company, has named Glen Jewell and Hanh Ha as additional directors of its London office. The roles came into effect at the start of 2013. Jewell and Ha will join John McGrail and Alex Rimmer and will share responsibility for the management of the engineering activities and the continued success and development of the business. Ha’s primary activity sector will be flexible riser, flowline and umbilical engineering, and Jewell’s focus will be drilling and production risers and conductor systems.

IMS Saves Money

Following a record number of ASD Tug deliveries in 2012, accomplished Ship Delivery and Crew Training specialists, International Maritime Services (IMS) have handed over two ROPAX Ferries and a Workboat in quick succession to their respective owners. After completing an arduous 10,100 NM delivery voyage, the 117 metre ROPAX Ferry “Santa Cruz de Tenerife” arrived in its new home port of Busan Korea, earlier this week, hot on the heels of the successful delivery of a 26 metre Damen catamaran work boat from Singapore to Australia and a 99 metre Coastal Ferry relocated from Greece to Zanzibar. Alion Awarded $5.6m Contract Option

The Naval Sea Systems Command has exercised a $5.6m contract option for Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions company, to provide acquisition management support to its Program Executive Office Ships Acquisition Management (PEO Ships AM) Directorate. The option, which runs from June 1, 2007 through June 6, 2008, covers ship project directive (SPD) execution planning and financial execution; government furnished equipment (GFE) acquisition, delivery management and production management; configuration management; program management and Lean Six Sigma support; and business and financial planning. The contract runs for a total of five years, including a one-year base period and four, one-year options.
