First Zero-emission Electric Pusher Tug & Barge Enters Service for Cargill

Cargill will charter the worldā€™s first fully electric pusher boat and barges to transport cocoa beans in the Netherlands.The company will use Kotug Internationalā€™s zero emission E-Pusher and E-Barges to transport cocoa beans from the Port of Amsterdam, the largest cocoa import port in the world, to its cocoa factory in Zaandam. Port of London Launches Fully-electric Survey Vessel

In a first for UK ports, the Port of London Authority (PLA) and University College of London (UCL) have launched a fully electric, remotely operated survey vessel.It will support a MSc Hydrographic Surveying course they have run in partnership since 1999.The state-of-the-art platform, manufactured by Maritime Robotics, was acquired by the partners, following a successful bid and award of an £263,000 grant from the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).The vessel features the most advanced sonar and scanning system from technology manufacturer NORBIT, called a WINGHEAD.

Northern Offshore Services Takes NYK's CTV on Ten-year Charter

Northern Offshore Services has taken NYK's crew transfer vessel Energizer on a ten-year charter. The vessel will be used to transfer crews to offshore wind farms, mainly in Europe.Japan's NYK, which shared the charter news on Thursday, also said it has additionally agreed to dispatch its engineers to NOS to participate in operations and ship management in Europe, a leading region in the offshore wind industry, in preparation for the development of the CTV business in Japan."Northern Offshore Services is part of Northern Offshore Group (NOG).

New Initiative for Zero Emission Shipping

A group of six leading Nordic industry companies has, in line with the UN sustainability goals, joined forces to solve a great societal challenge. TechnipFMC Orders Vallourec Pipes for Mero 1

The provider tubular solutions for the energy markets Vallourec Soluçoes Tubulares do Brasil has been awarded by TechnipFMC in Brazil to supply around 12,000 tons of seamless steel rigid line pipe with outside diameters 8ā€ and 10ā€.The pipe will be used in the fabrication of the riser and flowline system for interconnecting 13 wells (6 production wells and 7 water alternate gas injection wells), to be installed in the pre-salt field Mero 1, which is part of the giant Libra reservoir.Libra covers an area of 1,550 square kilometers, equivalent to the size of the Brazilian city of São Paulo, with recoverable reserves estimated in the range of 8 to 12 billion of barrels of oil.The Libra Block has been developed under a consortium agreement with Petrobras (40% share) as operatorā€¦

Babcock Delivers World's Largest LNG Bunker Supply Vessel

Babcock International is celebrating the completion of its ā€˜first of its kindā€™ and the worldā€™s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker supply vessel, M.V. Kairos, as it is delivered to Babcock Schulte Energy (BSE).BSE is a 50:50 joint venture between Babcock and Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM)."This achievement follows the success in meeting a series of critical programme milestones after initial ship award in December 2016 and highlights the strength of the relationship between the two organisations," said a press release from the UK-based company.A major point in any shipbuilding project, the first cut of steel was completed in November 2017 at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea.

AET Adds Four Newly Built Tankers

Singapore-headquartered vessel owner AET Tankers - a subsidiary of Malaysia's MISC Berhad - has named and welcomed four newbuild tankers into its fleet in two separate ceremonies at South Korean shipyards. At Samsung Heavy Industries, Geoje, South Korea on Wednesday, 24 January, AET named two 113,400 dwt Aframax tankers ā€œEagle Barcelonaā€ and ā€œEagle Brisbaneā€. Two 157,512 dwt Suezmax twins, ā€œEagle San Franciscoā€ and ā€œEagle San Joseā€, were named two days later on Friday, 26 January, at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. All four vessels will join the AET fleet as part of an ongoing fleet rejuvenation programme and take up charter agreements with leading oil companies.

DNV GL Earns DAkkS Accreditation as EU MRV Verifier

Classification society DNV GL has gained the accreditation from German accreditation body DAkkS to verify compliance with the EU Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (EU MRV) regulation. The regulation, part of the EU's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, requires operators to monitor and report on CO2 emissions based on ship fuel consumption. It applies to all merchant ships of 5,000 GT or above calling at EU (and EFTA) ports. ā€œDNV GL has followed the development of the MRV regime since its infancyā€¦

Terntank's first 15000DWT Chemical Tanker Passes Sea Trials

The first dual-fuel two-stroke engine employing the low-pressure X-DF gas admission technology developed by Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) has passed the final milestone in its evolution from a technical concept to commercial operation as a marine main engine. The International Windship Association (IWSA) has announced the shortlist, selected by shipping industry experts, for the inaugural Wind Propulsion Innovation Awards 2016 and voting is now open to everyone to select the winners in three categories ā€“ Innovation, Technology User and Research. The Lifetime Achievement Award is a closed vote for IWSA members. The Awards will be presented at a ceremony at the SMM2016 on 8th September 2016 in Hamburg. The Wind Propulsion Innovation Awards were launched by IWSA to recognise pioneering projects and technological innovation in the development of wind propulsion for technically and commercially viable solutions for different vessels across the maritime industry.

'We Will Not Stand by and Wait for Global Regulation' -Maersk Line

Shipbreaking has become commercial due to the recycling of steel becoming a global commodity in demand. This means that the dismantling and recycling of a ship are recognized as part of the value of the ship, which has evolved into a massive challenge for the shipping industry. "The choice is clear. One option is to continuing to wait for global agreement ā€“ while hundreds of vessels continue to be dismantled on the beaches of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan ā€“ or to act now and begin improving the conditions in yards. That is what we have done in Maersk. We have chosen to no longer stand passively on the other side of the gate of the ship yard but instead engage directly where the majority of ships are dismantled.
