Video: Mega Sailing Ship Docks in Greece

One of the largest sailing ships in the world, the 636-foot-long Club Med 2 is a huge five-masted cruise ship owned and operated by Club Med. The impressively massive vessel recently called the port of Chios Island Greece, where Konstantinos Mil. Anagnostou was able to capture stunning aerial photos and video. Watch here. Built from 1992 to 1996 in Le Havre, France, Club Med 2 harnesses power from computer-operated sails combined with diesel-electric power. Seven sails and four diesel generators powering two electric motors propel the ship to speeds of 10-15 knots.

O’Neill Joins Knight & Carver

Knight & Carver YachtCenter has announced that Katherine (Kate) O'Neill has joined the company’s staff as a sales representative based in its Shelter Island (San Diego) satellite office. A native of Australia, O’Neill brings first-hand knowledge and experience in the yacht and charter cruising industries to Knight & Carver. Most recently, she owned and operated Sailing Tours.com, based in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, aboard the 65 ft. cutter "Nirvana." For the past four years, she coordinated private sailing tours aboard the vessel through an arrangement with Club Med Ixtapa and various five-star resorts in the region. Prior to that, O’Neill traveled the western coastal waters of the U.S. and Mexico aboard “Nirvana” for more than a year.

Costa Crociere: a Leader in France and Marseilles

Costa Crociere is both a historical cruise company in France, having had a presence there since the 1950s, and also the market leader, accounting for over 50% of French cruisers (120,000 Guests in 2006). The number of Costa Crociere’s French Guests has almost quadrupled since 1993. With this position on the French market, Costa has also built its success on an important partnership with Marseilles. Rocketing growth in recent years shows that French people are more aware of and keener on cruise holidays. Costa Crociere saw its recall rates rise from 5% in 1993 to 75% in 2006 (from a TNS, Infratest survey in September 2006). Costa Cruises ranks fourth in assisted recall tests among French travellers and cruisers…

Antigua Tests New Traffic Rules

Antigua saw an unusually high number of cruise ship visitors as seven vessels docked at the Heritage Quay, Redcliffe Quay and Deep Water Harbor ports on Feb. 22. The seven ships, Oceana, Infinity, Golden Princess, Lirica, Club Med II, Regatta and Lili Marleeen, have a combined capacity of more than 10,000 passengers and crew. According to the Antigua Sun, this was an unusually large number of cruise vessels to dock in St. John’s at one time and was the third time this season that Antigua has hit this mark. The influx of visitors has led to a notable increase in traffic congestion in the St. John’s city center, particularly since new regulations enforced from Feb.
