Dorian LPG to Install Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight

Kongsberg Digital announced that Dorian LPG (DK) ApS, a subsidiary of Dorian LPG Ltd., owner and operator of very large gas carriers (VLGC), has contracted to install Vessel Insight to its entire fleet of 22 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers. The agreement is expected to commence operation in the upcoming months.By installing Vessel Insight, Dorian is consolidating collection of all critical data from its entire VLGC fleet into one common infrastructure. The company aims to gain insight into signals coming from the fleet’s assets and enable realization of data-driven operations.

Wärtsilä said its Fleet Operations Solution (FOS) will be employed by UltraShip for the Denmark-based shipowner's entire fleet of 18 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier vessels.The solution by Wärtsilä Voyage is designed to save costs while increasing safety by automatically optimizing the route and speed of the vessel. It also provides the fullest and latest voyage data, keeping both onboard and onshore personnel informed and notified.The contract was signed in Q4 2020 and roll-out will take place during the first and second quarter of 2021.

DFDS Invests in Biofuel Start-up

Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS has decided to invest in startup company Mash Energy ApS to develop a commercially viable biofuel.The Danish ro-ro giant said in a press note that MASH Energy ApS produces biofuel from agricultural waste, currently from the by-products of nut processing in Tanzania and India.The biofuel is CO2 neutral and can be used in ships. Portugal’s Naval Rocha Shipyard Reports Robust Activity

Portugal’s Naval Rocha shipyard is reporting a surge in activity in the opening half of 2018 after delivering a series of drydock, wet basin and pier-side projects.Naval Rocha commercial director Sergio Rodrigues said the yard located in the heart of Lisbon Harbour on the north bank of the River Tagus has completed a wide variety of repair and conversion projects.Key work has involved containers, cruise, passenger and sailing ships, cargo and research survey vessels, naval ships, anchor handing tugs, supply vessels and dredgers.“Naval Rocha is a unique, modern shipyard,” said Mr Rodrigues. “We are located in a prime position in the centre of a European capital city which enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year.

BOLLFILTER Wins Arbitration over OceanSaver

After four years an arbitral tribunal has fully dismissed OceanSaver AS’ claim for compensation against BOLLFILTER Nordic ApS, Denmark. In 2013, OceanSaver AS initiated an arbitration case in Denmark against BOLLFILTER Nordic ApS, claiming that BOLLFILTER Nordic ApS had delivered defective filtration machines with wire mesh filters to OceanSaver AS in 2010 and 2011. The filtration machines, developed and manufactured by German Boll & Kirch Filterbau GmbH, were included in ballast water treatment systems sold by OceanSaver AS to shipyards in South Korea and China. Following installation, the filtration machines did not function properly, and OceanSaver AS claimed that this owed to defects in the filters, and that BOLLFILTER Nordic ApS had acted with gross negligence.

Cavotec Automated Mooring and Charging for E-Ferries

Cavotec's MoorMaster automated mooring and Automatic Plug-in System (APS) are set to enter service with a hybrid battery-powered ferry in Finland, delivering substantial operational efficiencies and reducing environmental impact. The Electra, operated by FinFerries, is 90m long, 16m wide, and carries up to 90 vehicles. It makes crossings at 15-minute intervals during the day, and one round trip per hour at night, year-round and in all weather conditions between Parainen and Nauvo in southwest Finland.

All bets would have been lost if one was to predict that I would never find one of the most advanced and modern workboats in the heart of the Norwegian Fjordlands. MAN Commissions Siemens to Supply Two-speed Gearbox for Vessel

Siemens provides with an order from MAN out its expertise in the construction of switchable special gears. Flender two-speed transmission are individual, switchable solutions for displaying different operating modes for specialized vessels. Various translations in a transmission enable different rotational speeds and power transmissions. This makes them particularly suitable for ships which require an alternative drive as a redundant system or emergency system, are powered hybrid, have several modes of operation, or to generate electricity at the same time during operation of the diesel engine. Consortium Targets Better Ship Efficiency and Navigation

A consortium of companies aims to develop an expert decision support system for improved ship efficiency and safer navigation via a two-year R&D project called iSea. Backed by funding from the Eurostars program, the iSea innitiative is led by Danelec Marine, with other participants including Vessel Performance Solutions ApS (Denmark), i-Marine Technologies and Research Inc. (Turkey) and Deniztekno Danismanlik Bilgi Teknolojileri ve Bilgisayar San. Tic. Std. Sti (Turkey). Set to commence the R&D program in January 2017, the iSea team will deliver a set of Expert Decision Support Systems (EDSS) for enhancing the performance and navigability of vessels.

Dry bulk Trend is Weak

Even though the trend is negative, by about 10% in the last two weeks, the supramax average 6 TC routes still seems to be overpriced compared to what is being fixed on the spot market for short period and rounds, says Fearnley's weekly report. This is certainly true in the Pacific/Indian Ocean, and it is the strong front haul number that are supporting the present index. In general, Indo rounds are still in the low USD 5000’s, longer Pacific rounds command a premium, and in the Atlantic the average round is at about mid USD 10,000. Short period in the Pacific (Singapore delivery) is in the upper USD 7000 mark, and most longer period are being concluded on index linked structures, which is essentially a premium.

TOS, AutoGates Boost Liverpool Port Throughput
