Costa Crociere Receives Yacht Design Award

Pier Luigi Foschi, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Costa Crociere Spa, was on hand at the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa to collect the prize awarded to the Genoese company for the construction of the Costa Fortuna, the new 105,000 gross tonnage vessel due to enter into service at the end of 2003, which will be the largest cruise ship ever to fly the Italian flag. On October 11, the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa was the venue for the “Yacht Design Award 2002”, presented to leading figures, shipyards and shipping companies that have made outstanding contributions to seafaring through pleasure vessels and cruise ships based on cutting-edge technology and design. Pier Luigi Foschi, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Costa Crociere Spa, collected the prize awarded to the Genoese company for the construction of the Costa Fortuna, the new 105,000 gross tonnage vessel which will have a maximum capacity of 3,400 passengers and is currently under construction at Fincantieri’s yard in Genoa Sestri Ponente. She is due to enter into service at the end of 2003 and will be the largest cruise ship ever to fly the Italian flag. The winners of the Yacht Design Award 2002 are as follows: Cantieri Benetti for confirming its position as the global market leader in the production of megayachts. Costa Crociere Spa for building the largest passenger ships in the history of Italian seafaring, in an ongoing tradition that continues today with the imminent entry into service of the largest ever Italian cruise ship, the Costa Fortuna, built in the same docks as the legendary liner Rex. Rodriguez Cantieri Navali for its entry into the world of megayachts following the brilliant results achieved in the fast ferry sector.
