Icelandic aluminum producer Nordic Aluminum (Nordural) has awarded a two-year contract to transport group Eimskip. Nordural officials did not release the value of the deal, but said that it would involve transport worth up to $13.8 million. The deal excludes aluminum ore imports.
The contract involves the transport of aluminum from Iceland to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the import of anodes used to produce aluminum from Neuss in Germany, and the export of anode remnants for recycling. It also includes the transport of other operational cargo, supplies, and equipment related to Nordural's
expansion plans scheduled to start later this year.
The contract takes effect on March 1 and will be valid until 2002, with option for extension. Eimskip will transport around 140,000 tons a year during the contract period. Nordural's annual production capacity is about 60,000 tons but will be about 90,000 tons after the expansion is completed.
