Hamworthy to Supply MBR for Radisson Seven Seas

Monday, March 24, 2003
Hamworthy KSE has received its first order in the commercial sector for its new MBR (membrane bioreactor) system for black/grey water treatment. Radisson Seven Seas is the first cruise company to confirm an order for the advanced sewage treatment system. Under a contract worth $1million, the MBR system was installed aboard the 28 500 tonne Seven Seas Navigator, which had been converted to the new sewage treatment technology while in drydock at the Mariotti yard in Italy. The configuration for the Seven Seas Navigator is designed for a ship’s complement of 845, each of its two MBR systems comprising ten membrane modules and ultimately sharing the load equally. A tight timescale saw the first of two MBR systems installed and undergoing IMO type testing in February 2002, with the dual-system installation completed by May. Much of the installation was undertaken while the vessel is was on a world cruise starting in January. The 48 000 ton, 1200-complement Seven Seas Mariner contract to convert two existing conventional treatment plants is now underway for completion by May 2003, ensuring that the Seven Seas vessels destined to cruise in Alaska are fully compliant with the latest waste water regulations.
