August 4, 2003

The U.S. Navy today awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation's Ship Systems sector a $42.3 million cost-plus contract option for services to the DDG 51 Class Aegis destroyer program. This represents the third option of a multiyear contract that was awarded to the company last year to build four destroyers. Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide services including the design of Aegis destroyer upgrades, planning and technical support. The company will also help provide baseline upgrade work, pre commissioning crew indoctrination, and specific research and development efforts. Northrop Grumman has delivered 18 quality destroyers to the Navy, with 10 ships remaining to be built. Northrop Grumman Ship Systems recently christened its 21st Aegis destroyer James E. Williams (DDG 95), and began construction on DDG 100 in January, marking the beginning of the company's 24th ship. The Naval Sea Systems command is the contracting activity for this DDG 51 service contract.
