November 4, 2005

General Dynamics announced that, effective January 1, 2006, Chris Marzilli will become president of subsidiary General Dynamics C4 Systems. He will report to Jerry DeMuro, General Dynamics executive vice president and group executive for Information Systems and Technology. Marzilli will succeed Mark A. Fried, 59, who is retiring. Marzilli has worked in the defense information systems and technology industry for more than 20 years, the past 15 of which have been largely dedicated to bringing advanced command, control, communications, computing and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) solutions to the tactical battlespace. Since Nov. 2003, Marzilli has been senior vice president and deputy general manager of General Dynamics C4 Systems. Previously, as vice president and general manager of the company's Commercial Hardware Systems (CHS) business area, he was responsible for major programs such as the U.S. Army Common Hardware/Software II and III (CHS-2 and CHS-3) programs, Army Aviation Command and Control System (A2C2S) subcontract and Commanders Digital Assistant (CDA).Fried has been president of General Dynamics C4 Systems since the unit was created in Nov. 2003, when the former Communication Systems and Decision Systems business units of General Dynamics were combined. His leadership was instrumental in the integration of those organizations and five businesses subsequently acquired into the successful, 11,000-employee company that it is today. Fried began his career in 1968 at Raytheon and in 1972 joined Motorola as a senior electrical engineer. He moved on to manage several major business areas, and ultimately became general manager of a Motorola unit that General Dynamics acquired in 2001. Fried was named president of that unit, named General Dynamics Decision Systems, at that time.
