Ports to Get $168m in Security Grants

Friday, July 07, 2006
The Department of Homeland Security released its summary of the FY2006 Infrastructure Grant Programs. Included therein is an allocation of $168m for port security grants. The port security grants will be made for specific projects at 101 eligible ports (which together handle 95% of the nation’s foreign waterborne commerce). Public sector applicants must provide at least 25% of the total project cost, while private sector applicants must provide at least 50% of the total project cost. The Port Security Grant Application must be submitted by August 4, 2006.

In a release, DHS said, the nation’s 100 most critical seaports, representing 95 percent of the foreign waterborne commerce of the United States, plus an additional seaport eligible in 2005, are eligible to participate in the port grant program. From 2002 to 2005, DHS provided more than $706 million through this program. Source: HK Law
