MMA Seeks Input for NEASC Study

Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit this fall by a team representing the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). NEASC last accredited MMA for a 10-year period in 1996, and the college is a candidate for reaccreditation this fall. As part of the comprehensive self-study leading up to the team visit, the public is invited to submit comments regarding the institution. Comments may be provided to the institution via the college’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Academic Dean, Dr. John Barlow, or directly to the Commission. Self-study relies on the participation of many different groups, including the neighboring community. A draft of MMA’s comprehensive self-study is available online at http://neasc.mma.edu for public review. Comments regarding the draft can be made through the website or sent in writing to Dr. John Barlow, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, Maine 04420. Comments sent directly to MMA are due by Aug. 14, 2006. Correspondence should be clearly labeled on the envelope and within the subject line: NEASC Public Comment on Maine Maritime Academy. The public may also submit comments regarding the institution directly to the Commission: Public Comment on Maine Maritime Academy, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, 209 Burlington Road, Bedford, MA 01730-1433, E-mail: [email protected]. Comments sent directly to the Commission are due by Nov. 15, 2006. All comments submitted, either directly to the Commission or to Maine Maritime Academy, must address substantive matters related to the quality of Maine Maritime Academy. Comments, must be written and signed, and include the name, address, and telephone number of the person providing the comments. The Commission and Maine Maritime Academy will not treat comments confidentially.
