On October 23, 2006, Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) delivered the first ever Tug Boat built for Saudi Arabia, built for A.A. Turki Corporation.

The tug is propelled by Azimuth Thrusters, which can rotate 360 degrees and features controllable pitch propellers. It also features an autopilot system from Rolls-Royce. The main engines from Wartsila Italy deliver 2000 kW @ 1000 rpm each.

These Tugs, that are built to international standards meeting requirements of Lloyds Register of Shipping, perform berthing operations as well as salvage, towing, pulling, pushing and fire fighting activities.

CDL was successful in securing the contract after a team of technical staff visited the yard for yard audits, and being fully satisfied with CDL’s facility and quality of workmanship by inspecting several Tug Boats built by CDL for the local ports.
