Transas Presents its Crisis Management System in Malaysia

Friday, July 20, 2007
Transas Marine Pacific was invited to present its state-of-the-art Crisis Management System – PISCES - at one of Malaysia’s most important professional forums. A Marine Environmental Conservation Course under the auspices of the Malaysian Technical Co-operation Program was convened at country's premier maritime education and training institution - Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) - from June 17 to 30, 2007.

Twenty delegates from the Yemen, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Tonga, Timor & the Philippines represented a wide cross-section of government bodies. Coastguard personnel, biologists, researchers and ecological managers attended the event.

Capt. Sundeep R Sequeira from Transas Marine Pacific led the presentation devoted to training in emergency situations using the example of Transas CMS. The Crisis Management System takes advantage of current technologies in networked computer systems and wireless communications to enable the rapid exchange of data and to reduce the workload of those persons tasked with archiving, retrieving and displaying information. Components are developed to support all areas of responsibility including overall command and control, decision-making, operations, planning, logistical support, and financial/administrative functions.

A video demonstrating a joint oil spill response exercise between Russia, Estonia & Finland (held in 2006) was shown to provide a better understanding of the functionality & operability of the system.
