Gibraltar’s Cammell Laird is reporting busy times with at least seven contracts already confirmed for January/February 2005. The yard has been particularly busy
with offshore work of late with three offshore supply vessels (OSVs) and one ocean-going tug all recently at the shipyard. The OSV’s are the
Seaway Eagle, the Norman Progress, and AP Moller’s Maersk Trinity, and the tug is the Sertosa 27.
Meanwhile, other ships recently repaired include two containerships from Safmarine, the Safmarine Nimba, and the Safmarine Mono, the cruise vessel Thompson Spirit, the containership Schelddiep, and the Ashabi, which is in for long term fire-damage repairs.
The yard is also working on the cruise vessel Rotterdam, which is being converted to a museum/conference ship for the Port of Rotterdam, and the 60m yacht Islander.
Steve Davis, who has recently been working in Spain, has been appointed as an additional Ship Manager. A further 12 apprentices have commenced there training, they will spend the first year in the training school, from there they will spend six months in each department, finally choosing which trade they would like to specialise in.
