The Secretary of the Navy recently designated 13 Navy and Marine Corps depot maintenance activities, including six Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activities, as Centers of Industrial and Technical Excellence (CITEs).

As CITEs, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine; Norfolk Naval Shipyard; Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Washington; Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility; Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport Wash.; and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Ind., have SECNAV-delegated authority to enter into public-private partnerships to perform work related to their depot maintenance core competencies.

The shipyards serve as CITEs for the maintenance, repair, modernization, inactivation, disposal and emergency repair of ships, systems and components. NUWC Keyport and NSWC Crane are the CITEs for maintenance and repair of weapons and vehicle, electronic systems, and ordnance for submarines and surface ships, respectively. Source: NAVSEA
