Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has delivered the SUPERIOR STORM, the first of two nearly identical Bollinger designed 245-foot class liftboats being built at Bollinger Marine Fabricators, Inc., Amelia, La. for Superior Energy Services, Inc., Harvey, La. With leg lengths of more than 230-feet, SUPERIOR STORM can operate in water depths to 180-feet, and is equipped with a 250-ton capacity crane. The SUPERIOR STORM is 141-feet in length, with a molded hull beam of 67-feet and hull depth of 13-ft. It has 6,550 sq. ft. of useable deck space and a cargo lifting capacity of 1 million pounds. The boat’s secondary crane has a capacity of 30 tons. Air-conditioned accommodations have been provided for 42 people. The self-propelled SUPERIOR STORM is powered by two Caterpillar 3512 diesel engines driving through Twin Disc reverse/reduction gears. Electrical power is supplied by two 190 KW generator sets of 480v, 3 phase, 60 HZ with one main switchboard and one remote. The vessel is USCG certified Subchapter L with an ABS loadline. The vessel is also ABS Classed as a Self Elevating Lift Boat receiving a Maltese Cross A1, Maltese Cross AMS, Domestic Restricted Service certificate. The SUPERIOR STORM is the first vessel Classed under the ABS LiftBoat Guide Rules recently enacted by the American Bureau of Shipping. Delivery of the sistership, SUPERIOR GALE, the second 245-ft. class liftboat from Bollinger to Superior, is planned for the fourth quarter of 2002. “The delivery of the SUPERIOR STORM marks the fourth liftboat we have constructed for Superior,” said Donald “Boysie” Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. “Superior strives to provide enhanced services to their customers and Bollinger is pleased that they continue to look to us for enhanced platforms to support their efforts.” “The SUPERIOR STORM provides us additional capacity to serve our customers’ growing need for larger, multi-purpose liftboats,” said Terry Hall, president and CEO of Superior Energy Services, Inc. “The STORM, much like our other large liftboats, can support our well intervention and bundled services projects, performing heavy lifts, and support pipeline tie-ins and other construction-related projects. These larger liftboats uniquely position us within the production-related market.”
