Mediterranean Shipping Co. Announces Appointments

Mediterranean Shipping Company (USA) Inc. (MSC) has announced the following staff promotions and appointments effective immediately: Francesco Pansardi was named Marketing Manager, based in New York City; Tom Hughes was named National Trade Manager Transpacific Service, based in Los Angeles; Halina Rosa was named Trade Manager East Coast for the company's Transpacific service based in New York City; and Juan Wilson has been named Credit Manager, also based in New York City. Francesco Pansardi joined MSC in April of 1998. Prior to that, he had worked with Henkel Cosmetic Italia in Parma as product manager, and before that, with Bruno Magli Group as assistant product manager. In his new post as Marketing Manager for MSC, Pansardi is responsible for monitoring and evaluating company's trade lanes and performances, as well as conducting market research and forecasting trends. He will also be responsible for marketing communications including advertising and sales support programs. He holds a BA Degree in Business Economics from the University of Parma. Tom Hughes has been with MSC since July of 1998. His former positions with MSC include serving as Line manager in New Orleans, and as District Manager in Oakland, and then in Los Angeles. Prior to joining MSC, Hughes worked with D.E. Turncliff & Associates, Ltd. In New Orleans, the former agent of MSC before the company was acquired by MSC in 1998. In his new position as National Trade Manager for the Transpacific Service, Hughes is responsible for overall management of the company's transpacific service in the U.S. Halina Rosa has been promoted to Trade Manager East Coast for the Transpacific Service, with added responsibility for all-water service from the East Coast to Far East destinations. Rosa has been with MSC since 1994, and has served as Cost Control Manager in Vessel and Intermodal Operations, and from 1997 until the present as Line Manager for the company's South Atlantic and Gulf Service. Her extensive background in the maritime industry includes four years with Gdynia America Line, Inc. in Edison New Jersey as General Manager Intermodal Operations, and 17 years with Polish Ocean Lines in Gdynia, Poland where she held management positions in Operations and Finance. She holds a Master's Degree in Economics of Maritime Transport and a B.S. Degree in Economics from Gdansk University in Poland. Juan Wilson has been named Credit Manager for MSC after working most recently as the company's Import Traffic Manager, U.S. Wilson has over 20 years of experience in the cargo transportation business having worked for Korea Shipping Line as Line Manager, as well as with Refrigerated Express, Kerr Steamship and T.J. Stevenson before coming to MSC ten years ago. In his new post, Wilson will oversee the company's credit approval and evaluation activities at all U.S. offices. Ranked as the 4th largest container operator in the world, MSC operates 140 container ships in direct and relay services around the world, serving 166 ports on five continents. Ten new 6,700-TEU ships are on order, and the company will start taking delivery of these new vessels in June of 2001.
