ExxonMobil To Trade Marine Fuels On Net

ExxonMobil Marine Fuels (EMMF) will begin trading marine fuels on the Internet and has signed the first of several agreements with an e-commerce portal.

EMMF, which supplies more than 15 million tons of marine fuels per year, has signed a contract with London-based Telemarine Ltd. to participate in e-trading on BUNKERSTEM. Telemarine operates the Bunkerworld.com website and BUNKERSTEM, a secure e-trading facility for buying and selling bunker fuels over the Internet.

Peter Healey, director at EMMF, said the company expected to use several portals and would offer clients direct quotes over its own site in the summer. "Used properly, it (the Internet) will benefit everyone in the bunker industry, by making the market more transparent, and by cutting costs," Healey said. "And in the spirit of the Internet, we will be open to links with all significant participants. We shall also offer our own direct website facility, which will include direct quotes for bunker supplies and technical advice."
